Problem with 2001 L
Problem with 2001 L
There is a potential problem with my L. I was going down the road at about half throttle and then the truck just died. There was a sound kind of like a quick release of air as it happened. So I get it stopped and then try to turn it over. It wouldn't turn over. There were no odd sounds so the motor wasnt blown. So I try a few more times and it starts but as if it was running on a couple cylinders really rough. I give it gas a couple times and it smoothed out.
So then I went to a parking lot and popped the hood. All the plugs were still in the head, coolant temps were normal, oil pressure normal. No noticeable leaking or anything like that. The truck sounds a tad bit louder but other then that seems pretty normal. The truck has a 4lb lower and PSP chip. Other then that it is stock.
Any idea as to what caused it to stall and what the problem with it may be? I still have a month of factory warranty left so I will probably end up taking it in. Just wanted to get an idea as to what it could be. I am a little worried about them fixing it due to the lower pulley and chip but they were on the truck when I bought it.
Thanks
Garry

No I haven't removed the coilpacks. I was under the assumption that when the plugs exited the head they took the coilpack with it. I checked all the vac lines and they are all good. There is a noticeable ticking on left head now though.
I have an 01 too. While running down the 1/4 mile, my L shut off
. It started up after I got it stopped. It was the chip. Pull yours and see how it sounds/runs. Don't go WOT because of the 4lb pulley(although some guys have run theirs without a chip) but you should be able to tell if it's better.

Well I took it in and they called within 2 hours and said they won't touch it because it is modified. They said I need to talk to the dealer that I bought it from. They were saying they cancel my warranty because of this but won't. The damn thing runs out in 13 days anyway. They won't fix the seat either. It has the dark spot on the drivers side which ends up turning into a hole. They said to print out where I read about it and maybe they will change their minds on fixing that. As for the other bigger problem I will have to see what the dealer I got it from says. I bought it used from a chevy dealer but took it to the local SVT dealer this morning. Oh well who knows whats next.
I also have a 01' Lightning. Had a ticking noise a few weeks ago that sounded like an exhaust leak. I brought it to ford and they just dont have a clue to say the least. Gave it back to me with the same noise. Anyway, I checked the plugs and the 2nd one in on the drivers side was hanging by 1 thread at the most. It was ready to pop and I caught it just in time. So if you have the tick.... its worth checking out. Good luck! ~john
Can anyone tell me anything about this other then the obvious that its a chip
It was hard to read in the pic so I touched up the numbers in photoshop in the one pic.. Thats how it was on the computer. The wires were tucked inside.

Did a bunch of searching and reading and one thing that came up was the boost dump. What are the odds it was this? I am leaning towards plugs but don't want to attempt it. Looks like a pain in the butt. I bought this truck because my turbocharged car is nothing but problems and wanted a fast vehicle with no problems..lol

It runs and sounds the same. I didnt drive it without the chip though. IMO It would seem the chip is useless. From looking at PSP's site there should be a toggle switch or a rotary dial connected to the wires and in this case there isn't. I went to where I bought it from today and they are going to pay for the problem to be diagnosed. The truck feels normal. Hopefully it is somethign simple.
It could possibly be a malfunctioning Mass Air Flow Sensor. I know my truck died while I was driving it and then when I tried to start it up it idled really rough. I also had the misfortune of having a bad fuel pump about a month after the bad MAFS. Hope this helps.
