Results of 1st time to track...

Everybody posts theirs so I guess I will too

OK, first time to the track in my 2003 LIghtning with 2,900 miles on her. Bone stock except for Flowmaster 1 chamber mufflers and h-pipe. I had about 40 runs under my belt from my old 6 speed Z28, so this auto gig was new to me. I could not hook up tonight at Natural Bridge dragway but I'm pretty happy with my truck b/c I know it's got a lot more in it. Temps were about 68-70 and humidity was above 90%. THis is at 2,000 ft elevation. 1st ever time down the track was fastest:

2.185 60'
5.981 330'
9.084 1/8 mi @ 78.53

best 60' was only 2.17x, I was consistently in the 2.17s and 2.18s. THis is with the Goodyear F1s @ 26 lbs. 1/2 tank of gas, some tools in the truck, and I'm about 235lbs... truck was easily over 5,000 lbs. I think I was launching good from idle, just a little spinning, enough to squeal the tires a little. I'm a little pissed b/c a bunch of jackasses kept crowding the staging lane entrance and forced people to pull partially thru the waterbox. I think generally it was just not a well prepped track but I don't have other's times to compare.

There was one other lightning there, with some mods, and he could not hook up at all. He quit running after he damn near put it in the wall! Got challenged to a run with a Joe Gibbs supercharged Chevy. He cut a BAD light, ran a 9.4 and I won by a total of .753 sec!

Might try a different track next week. But I had a great time overall. 6 runs, all "wins". Got some nice compliments on the truck. I think this truck will go 8.80s pretty easy if I can get down to 1.8 60 ft times.

Not bad 60ft's considering the track wasn't hooking, nice job. Might want to try and take another lb (maybe 2) out of the F-1's and show up w/ a 1/4 tank of gas next time, that ought to be good for a bit more

Don't you just love the track

Not bad times at all for that track. I used to go to Virginia Tech and I've been down that track probably 100 times. Natural Bridge track prep is never good. 2.1 60' is about as good as you can expect. I think the best I ever pulled there while stock was 8.9.

Sounds like your launching and setup is about right. Try pulling the front sway bar and rolling into the throttle from off of 800 rpms.

Well you're in luck.... last night I made my first trip to Richmond dragstrip in my stock 03. I made multiple passes and my best was 8.85 1/8th with 2.03 60ft which turned out to be a 13.80@99.49 in the 1/4...this was with the truck completely stock including untouched air pressure and a full tank of gas. I tried launching off idle and at 1k rpms and found off idle to be better as I didnt spin as much.

This was my first time a the track. It was at SAR..I've heard bad things about the track prep. I have 20"s and about 200Lb's of bed cover and stereo equip. It's a 99L.

2.08-60'
8.79-1/8
13.6-1/4 at 100.58

Mods:2# lower and a daily driver tune from RWTD.

Do these times sound slow or about right for the 99?

Thanks

that seems pretty darn good with 20" rims and only a conservative tune with 2lb lower... mine with stock wheels, JLP CAI and a 2.04 60' time only went 14.04@97

Hey VTSVT, are you still in the area? I'm a 2000 VT alumnus and I still work in Bburg, so I imagine we've crossed paths. Shoot me an email offline if you're still in the area bro.

add some traction bars..

Obviously I have a few more mods, but I managed to squeak out a 12.9 run on f1's inflated to 33psi.

Wydopnthrtl, I think hit 12.8 with the f1's.

Being you have a 03, I would consider doing a 2", possibly a 3" drop in the rear. That will really help your 60's considerably.

I was consistiently cutting low 2.0X 60's...did the drop in the rear, next time out cut a 1.90 with a best 60' of 1.860.

The big thing is just leaving off idle...being I have have numerous automatic cars and stalling just seems right...I hate having to leave off idle.
