hows the superchip 1715 with a 4#? hp4

Just wondering if anyone has run this set up (a 4# with the hp4 seting or a 2# on hp4) and if they had any problems to date?

Basically is it a good safe tune or is it a block ventalator like the predator?

I know there is probably more power to be had elsewhere but i'm currently more concerned about having the motor last.

BTW would tr 7ix's also be good to run with this combo (i've found through numours cross referance guides that even show the motorcraft part # that the tr6's are stock replacements eg agsf-12 = bpr6efs = it20 = tr6= tr6ix)

(btw - it22 = tr7ix)
thanks for the help

The base Microchips tuner is made for a stock vehicle. If you mod you must go for SCT 9100 custom tuning.

What year is your truck and where are you in Canada?

black f150 offroad, I have the 1715 HP4 with a 4lb and a airforce 1 cone and pulled 400/493....with a safe AF of 11.2 at 5200.
Its a great of the shelf tune. I was at the dyno with 4 other trucks with custom tune chips and the only truck that pulled a higher HP was Steeles at 426/517 on the race side with a 6lb pulley.

You can run a 2lb, 4lb or 6lb with the HP4 also. I ran a 2lb for a while and I run TR6 plugs. I've had it for about a year and no problems.

TrackBeast - I'm from Alberta.

RED 92 - thanks for you input with the tuner as I was looking for someone who has used it for a decent amount of time. I did have a set of tr6s ordered but then i decided to go with the tr7's so hopefully that will work out, I also only have 91 octane available in the area so I thought it might be safer to run a colder plug.

I run 93 down here in Texas good luck with it . I ran it with the shift setting a little firm on the 1-2 for a while for that mid throttle 1-2 shift tire bark but I now have all the shift firmness settings set to min (lowest setting) since I installed the FTVB.

I'm actually have a line mod valve .427" and was planning just to use the superchip setting for shift pressures and the stock shift point settings. So hopefully thats a good idea as I don't really want to rev it any more than what it does stock.

Red,
I was in the Superchips booth at the last SEMA show and this recommendation came directly from them. Vehicles that deviate from the norm is the reason they started the SCT division. Superchips custom tuning. They use the same tuner but custom tune specifically for your mods.

Doesn't mean the base tune won't work but it's not ideal and you certainly need to compensate if you're running a 2lb vs a 6lb.

since the SEMA show you attended, did you know superchips added an HP4 program to its 1715 model around september of 2003 specifically for a 4 lb pulley application.....I talked directly with superchips when they first developed this during thier testing and a 2-4-6 is safe on the HP4 setting.

The last Sema show in Vegas was in November 2003.

I'm glad it works for you.

Good luck
