PSP Tune For An 03

Before I put on my 4lb pulley, I need to get a chip. From what I've read so far, it seems that no one has had a problem or complaint about PSP tunes. I'm thinking of going with them but it just seems that tuners have a little trouble getting 03's tuned. It seems that some 03's run better stock. Any feedback or input? I was also considering buying a Predator pre-programmed with a custom tune from PSP also. I don't want a tune so aggressive that I have to worry about blowing the truck up but I also want to feel a considerable difference.

I would suggest making the trip up to see Sal personally (or finding a tuner in your local area that you want to work with...I'm sure someone on here can make a suggestion), because when you get your tune in the mail, you'll have to (or at least I hope you would want to) go to the dyno and get the A/F checked...$80. IF anything is wrong then you get another tune..$80..etc...

It adds up quickly. I spent $240, over 2 months, trying to get my A/F right, when I could have just got it dyno tuned the first time for $300 in one day...

Just an option to consider

Cool

REM (Razors Edge Motorsports) is pretty close to you and I have seen numerous posts here that they do a good job with tuning Lightnings.

Give 'em a call and check it out...

Sal can give you a great tune via mail order.

I highly recommend him.

good luck whichever route you choose.

I'm driving an '03 with a custom Predator tune done by Danny Swanson in Torrance, CA. I know it is the wrong coast, but as far as the statement about some '03's running better stock? Not mine.

Danny's tune and that Predator woke that truck up. Drivability improvement was huge and horsepower to boot!!!!

I'd do it again in a heartbeat!

If anyone can tune your truck it is Sal. Sal dyno tuned my truck and 20+ other trucks a couple of weekends ago in Kansas City. It was amazing how close Sal could get the trucks on the initial tune.

Go with PSP.

So, can I just do it all by mail order? I know a dyno tune would be a lot better but it's a 23 hour drive from Florida. Woud it be safe enough to just get a chip mailed in and leave it at that without having to be concerned with A/F ratios?

When doing mail order, you need to test it on a local dyno to make sure the tune is good. This can get expensive if you have to go back multiple times to get it right.

The advantage of an in person dyno tune is you get it right in one trip. Might have a higher one time cost, but in the end it can be cheaper.

I had a chip mail ordered to me from Sal and I didnt have it dynoed for over a year after I installed it. Getting dynoed and tuned is the optimal choice but I think you are safe with calling him up and having him ship you one. When he dynoed my truck after I had been running the chip, the tune was pretty close to perfect.

That's up to you...personally I think that it's not worth the risk...the cost of building a new motor is way more than what it would cost to check the A/F or evern get it tuned on the dyno...but again, it's how much peace of mind do you want?

My first mail order tune from Sal was 13.1 A/F across the board. I sent him the graph and he corrected it. Every truck is different and I wouldn't chance not getting on the dyno.

what ever you do is up to you

BUT PLEASE DO NOT USE THE STOCK PREDATOR TUNE.

Do a little search on it here and NLOC and you will see the results.
Most people lower the timing by about 10% - 15% and the truck runs much better.

the Stock predator tune is WAY TOO AGGRESSIVE.
