Unhappy My 2000 L Intercooler

Just drove back from Tallahasee (3hrs) and got home and the intercooler resivor was almost empty, about 1/4 full.but it always had a very slow leak.

I'm assuming that the 9 row stock 2kL intercooler finally bit the dust, especialy with the extra strain from the Mag applied at about 15-16#'s, i guess the stocker couldn't hold its own anymore?

Its about time anyway time to upgrade to the new 01- and newer 10 row and lower manifold.

I called Ford and they said i was a day late and dollar short on the recall, which i knew but had to try anyway, so i can only blame the idiot who owned the truck before me for not gettin r done

But when i installed the Mag i took the whole intercooler assy. apart to clean not even a month ago

Oh well, i guess i'll have to do the whole re-install
AGAIN!!

I've seen complete assy. on ebay for 1200-, but all i need is the lower manifold and the matching 10 row.

Does anyone have an idea of where to get the upgrade without spending an arm and a leg?

Thanks
Dennis

you have 2 options and 2 options only.

1. convert it over to a 2001 setup, meaning modification of the blower (drill holes) and new upper, lower and intercooler. EXPENSIVE ROUTE

2. contact ford and buy the KIT. Ford made a kit hat consisted of an upper, lower and intercooler designed specifically for this problem. When ford had this CUSTOMER SATISFACTION CAMPAIGN (not recall) this is the kit they used. The new intercooler is indeed a 10 row I/C. Now, your de;earship probably won't have one. they are going to have to search and search and search to find one. They are still out there, but when they say they can't find one, tell them to keep looking.

I was lucky that my local delaership had one on the shelf for a long time. After begging, they sold it to me at cost. I reasonaed that no one is going to buy it and you will only get cost if you send it back to Ford. Keep me a happy Ford customer and sell it to me for whatever price Ford would give you for a return. THey did.

I-menace,

I have a Magnum setup so the mounting holes are universal (8 holes on each side to accept both type intercoolers)

So all i need is the 10 row and matching lower manifold which will fit aswell

If you have any more ideas on where to get them (besides ford)please let me know

Thanks
Dennis

How much does the "kit" normally run? I have a 2000 L. I haven't been able to get a straight answer on whether the intercooler fix was done. I guess I will just keep an eye on the intercooler reservoir

it was a while since I bought it, I think retail was around $750.00.

Like I said barter with them, they may go lower, tell them you the previous owner didn't perform the campaign and now you are suffering from it.

I don't think that is the right part.

The KIT is a single part number and contains all the parts you need.

do a search on here and it will pop up. I'm at my apartment right now and the box with my parts is at my house... so I can't run into the garage and look....

If you can't find it I"ll get it this weekend.

But don't buy the parts seperately, you need the kit, they are special parts designed to work. And the kit is the ONLY place to get these specific parts. can't buy them seperately.

I-menace your right ,

But i may have found a 2001 lower intake manifold elsewhere,so i prcied the parts seperatly

the intercooler itself was 650- from ford and the whole kit was alittle over 850, so i assumed the the lower man. itself was 200

sorry for the confusion

Dennis
