Okay, so you might have to buy glue and paint, but it's almost free. I'm sure some of you have already done this, but here it is anyway. Here are instructions on how to shorten your antenna.

http://www.mustangworld.com/ourpics/fcar/antenna1.htm

We did this on my Mach 1 and my dad (Shadowbolt) liked it so he did it to his truck too. He just cut it off even with the top of the truck and painted it black. I think it made it look much better. Especially on my car. I only listen to XM, so I don't know about reception, but my dad listens to mostly AM and I don't think he has had any problems. I'll see if I can get him to post some pics, but I don't know how easy it is to see an antenna in a picture.

Aren't most antena's tuned? Something to do with wavelength? I'm no radiowave junkie, so I may be way off, but I'm sure someone will chime in.

Yes Whip! Ding Ding Ding....

You want the impedance of the recieving unit to match the impedance of the transmitting media.

Have you ever seen those bra's that are "invisible to police radar?" They follow the same idea. They have the same impedance as the transmitter/air and there is 100% absorbtion - so there's no reflection. Nothing to return to the radar gun.

Same as stealth on planes...

SWR!! (standing wave ratio)

I'm not sure, but I cut mine down to about 13 inches when i was in Georgetown and was still picking up waco radio stations 70 miles away.

I can't tell the difference with the anenna cut off than before. Reception is not changed.

I don't know about this. Not talking of the shiza, just stating that some folks may really want to think about this. I live on the north side of OKC, (Edmond) and can pick up a radio station located in the middle of OKC when I drive to Wichita KS. I was in my truck and it was fuzzy, but I could still hear it. If you shorten your antenna, you will shorten the distance you can drive from the transmitting antenna and still be able to hear the station clearly. Good luck with those who try it

not to get off the subject but radar/stealth technology have nothing to to do with impedance. stealth is employed by deflecting most of its radar signature by using angles that reduce its radar cross section (RCS) signifigantly, some stealth aircraft use a radar absorbing material, but that has nothing to do with impedance/resistance, that's not how radar works.

car bra's that are "invisible" to radar are a waste of money, even if they did work what about the rest of the car? is it gonna absorb that siganture too? I rank those items up there with the passive radar jammers.............. JUNK, waste of money..

I was planning in cutting mine but it was stolen last week

Anyway, just do like I planned to do. Cut the antenna and have satelite radio as a back up just in case.

Actually I have had the satelite radio for over a year and rarely listen to the FM radio.

Agreed, if you ever start listening to satellite radio you will lose all intrest in FM.
