Paging LatemodelRacer2

John,

What ever came out of your fabbed traction bar set-up?

I remember the thread about you making up a set and there were questions about the bracket rigidity and the axle mount. How did they work out for you? Did they work well at the the track or did you have to modify them further?

I am thinking of working with a machinist friend of mine to fab up a set if the price is favorable to the $400 retail for a purchased set. I was thinking of either poly bushing at one end and hiem opposite (but you have to disconnect to adjust preload) or double hiem, opposed thread to allow on vehicle preload adjust.

I was looking to hear some real world about living with fabbed bars.

Thanks,
Herb

They did real well on the street. I took them to the track put the slicks on and sprayed off the line they worked good but the front brackets bent and so did the actual bar. I used 5/8 tubing for the bars should have went thicker. The front bracket needed to be beefed up. In the end bought JL bars and they work great. I dont have the time to make my setup work but it can be done and I hope you do it

Thanks John,

I was thinking along the lines of 1" DOM steel tube for the bares and 5/16" to 3/8" plate for the brakets. I figure I can over-build them for ~ 1/2 the retail price and have the fun of the fab.

How did the hiems treat you on the street?

Herb
