Is there a larger fuel filter that fits......

the Lightnings?

I looked at it the other day, and no wonder they clog in no time.

I thought I read that the Expedition filter is much larger, and the connections are the same?

What's the largest filter I can run?

You can fit the Navigator filter just fine... you really have to cram it behind that rentension clip...but it works. I used one a few changes ago with no problems. I would say its the largest you can use..seeing as physical space is at a premium

It's bigger than the factory one?

How did you mount it?

Here is the one I used.

With a little muscle the clamp will clamp in the middle of the filter and actually hold it in. I use wire ties just to be safe.

It has to be for a navigator from 99+ I think... I didnt use any zip ties. I just pulled that bracket far enough to cram it in there....its not easy, but if I can do it anyone can.

The large filter is an FG 872 (motorcraft/ford) It was used on pre 99 trucks and other vehilces, in 99 they switched to the small filter except on superduties - they still use the fg 872

Actually the filter that is on our trucks is the one that fits a V6 F150... just get a filter (which is what everyone is showing in the pics) that fits a 5.4L F150. All the parts houses I've been to around here will bring you out the big one when you go in to get a filter.

And it does not have to be zipped tied or put back into the clamp. I just set mine back up on top of the lines... it stays there quite fine. I have 116k miles on my Lightning, with the filter changed every 10k miles and it has never caused me any trouble doing it this way.

Thanks guys.

So the Navigator/Expidition filter is the same for any V-8 modular motor?

99+ would be the years to ask the parts guy for.

I need to see if the local Wal Mart has it in motorcraft part number mentioned above.

Again, thanks guys.
