winter driving(i know its been asked)
winter driving(i know its been asked)
whats up all, in the market for a new vehicle, was wondering how many of you do winter driving in your Lightning? here in Kansas City we get tons of ice and this will be my daily driver, so its either the L which looks like its hella fun to drive, or an 05 FX4 Supercrew. let me know how you all handle winter driving with rear wheel drive, im used to 4X4 in the snow and ice and have nver had a problem since ive always had that. the L would be cheaper and i have x-plan.... Also hows the gas mileage? Gas hog? i do have a lead foot and in the L, id most likely just want to hear it do that lovely blower scream
Thank in advance

DONT GET ME FRIGGING STARTED ON WINTER
YET

It seems some of the people here have "SPECIAL F-1's"
OR SOMETHING ???
Because mine is absolutely totally impossible to drive in snow, even a slight dusting. I swore I was driving mine 24-7/365 and I did the first winter and into the second, but after having to park it and walk home many a night, or put my life in jerpody to climb the OH SO SLIGHTEST OF INCLINES, even an ant wouldnt know is there, I gave up and got another vehicle for daily driving.
I've tried 500 lbs of sand in the bed, Concrete, Salt, you name it, NOTHING WORKS FOR ME. The frigging thing goes side ways at idle leaving a light or stop sign.
YET OTHERS HERE CLAIM THEY'RE GREAT IN THE SNOW
Bottom line, Ya you could do it, but I personally have to deal with a series of very long slight inclines to get to and from my house in any direction. They proved to be impossible, and between the sand, salt, (which rusted the schitt out of the undercarriage)
I decided IT WAS NOT A SMART MOVE OR SAFE IN SNOW PERIOD
(you can simply get a set of all weather tires/rims from a f-150)
Gas miliage, LOL
whats that ??? I get 9-11 MAYBE
Fun ?

I must have had a few of those special F1's becasue mine went great in the snow. I drove my 99 through three winters, and my 02 through one.... never once an issue. Ohio winters aren't that great, and I never once put any weight in the back. I would do it all over again as well.
thanks for the replys just thought id ask, i remember last winter when it was slushy outside seeing a guy in his SVT driving down the street it didnt seem like he had any troubles, but yet again it was slushy, Kansas city probably gets one of the worse winters, not so much it just being snow like other states get, we only get maybe a good 9inches of snow when it does fall the real killer is the inches, and inches, and INCHES of ice we get thats laying underneath all that snow
Beater car? good idea
i wonder what id look like driving in a geo metro

If your a 4 X 4 man, I don't think the Lightning is for you, but maybe you could change your ways
I don't know about driving the Lightning in the snow or ice. Hell, Ford even went to the great expense, of putting a sticker in the door jam, warning you that F-1's and snow/ice don't mix.
But when its dry outside
you forget about those payments you made during the winter. Some people buy a set of "winter tires and rims" and switch during the bad weather months, some people buy a beater, and some buy another new car. That decision is yours and yours alone. My choice was not have to worry about my Lightning and other drivers, and buy a beater for the winter.
It's been the best $300, I ever spent
