Question NGKTR7IX w/ 8# Lower ?

OK,
I've been inside for the last 36 hours waiting for the hurricane to blow over and quit dumping rain on us and have searched and read about every possible post about what plugs to use, where to set the gap and what brand to use...So, why not start another thread about plugs again ? (Let the flaming begin.... right?)

I am ready to install my 8# lower and have the NGKTR7IX plugs ready to go...from what I've read the temperature range should be fine and the gap should be around .038 to .040...

Has anyone run the NGKTR7IXs....I still have time to research and have my mind changed.

PS..No NOS for the time being...

So far here are the engine mods...
04' L w/
MotoBlue CAI
Accufab TB
C & L Inlet Pipe
170 T-Stat
Daily Driver in Lousy Florida Heat & Humidity

Stand by for the "conservative" community to chime in with the "8lb lower on a stock bottom end" bashing.....

you know you shouldn't run an 8lb lower on a stock bottom end!

I'd gap around .32-.35 with 16-17psi and street gas.

There are guys running 8# of extra boost safely, but I would be very careful with the tune. Get a safe tune from a respectable tuner, and use only 94 or higher octane. A little toluene or race gas mix to get it up to 96 would be best.

If it is a daily driver, that is an awful lot of boost to be running, because of the cost of gas and additives. Just my opinion.

I bought both both 6# & 8# pulleys in a Q.C. setup.

I could go with either... but what the heck I only get to live once so the 8# is leading the race at the moment. I know if I go any further I'm going to have to get the bottom end worked up....
As happy as I am with the truck that will happen one day anyways.

I plan on getting Sam @ Coastal in Tampa to do the tune...Several of the members here have used him. He is respectible and a few guys at work have used him for their Cobras and are very happy.

TiresWinRaces,
I agree w/ the recommendation for a conservative tune, that is the route I'm going to take

When all else fails and it's to be time to go crazy a 24 hour drive to Sal's with the bed full of cash may be the best bet...

That's overspinning our Eatons by a LOT, and the increase in heat may negate some of that additional boost. Not an efficient way to go fast in my opinion.

I'd much rather do a 4 or 6# pulley and a ported blower than slap a dinner plate on my truck.

Speaking from experience go with the 6pounder and get an aggresive tune the 8pounder will slow you down makes to much heat with a stock eaton. If you have a ported eaton and a 8pounder get ready for a built motor because she is going to BLOW. I'm running 11.80"s with a stock bottom with a ported eaton and a 6pounder and a Race tune from PSP. Sal is the man. My truck has not been on a dyno since I have owned it.

To answer your questions I'm using the same plugs (BR7EF) and an Autologic chip tuned by SAL (PSP).

Art-Man,
Most will say, that with stock bottom-end and stock "heaton" charger, 8lbs is too much and creates too much heat. But, it's all releative to what you want. So, with that said, have fun!

I also use Sam over there at Coastal Dyno. He has been the only one who touches my truck with all my mods and does a "Bang-Up" job. He is well respected and can tune for whatever your set up is.

I run a 6lb lower, and 1lb upper...and with his tune on my Revolutions chip, made over 400rwhp. If you go to the 8lb lower...a heat exchanger and port job are a good investment. Or maybe a 50 shot (dry shot) of NOS to cool that aircharge. Get with Sam, he won't steer you wrong.
