You can test the tightness of the belt by turning it 90 degree's between the snout and the idler. It should be difficult and only go to 90 degree's. If it "flips" easily then it may be too loose. First thing I would do is replace your two stock 90 degree idlers that the belt goes between with two 100mm. If you still get slipping, get the metco idler kit that puts it closer to the snout. Usually a tight fitting belt and two 100mm Idlers will do the trick. I happen to like Gates Micro V the best.

First I would check to see if its the right belt. You can also get a belt in 1/2" increments.

Yes, I received a wrong belt from a certain dealer and then received wrong information on the correct belt! I have a 4lb pulley and they told me I would need a 50800685 belt, which was wrong.

use the stock belt, if you only have a 4lb lower it will work just fine.

FYi: Gatorback belts are not the best for our blowers. On a daily driver they are great. But if your at the track or putting down some numbers? break off the tab of the ilder and use the stock belt or one that's a little longer than stock.

Why are Gator Back belts not good for our blowers? Inquiring minds want to know.

I've had one on my daily driver--1/4 miler for a couple of years now so I don't understand your statement and it's the first I've heard of it. My ET and my dyno numbers were done with it on.

the gator back belt has less contact surface do to the cross "slits" in it.

I have one on mine also, however, I only go to the track twice a year, once in spring and once in the fall.

SO for me it's OKAY.

Now. my stock '99 Lightning had a 9#PSI tensioner spring. I got a new one and it was a 12# PSI tensioner spring.

Also, there are ones out there a lot more PSI than that

For a 4# pulley, you want a 67.5 or 68" belt. A 68.5 is probably a little loose.

http://www.teamjdm.com/ JDM is proud to announce the introduction of our billet idler pulleys. Replace your factory high drag, low quality stamped steel OEM idler pulleys with our CNC Billet idler pulleys. These pulleys increase belt traction and eliminate pulley drag. Our pulleys are made from aircraft quality billet aluminum and are CNC machined for a perfect fit with “sealed for life” bearings. These are the same bearings that supercharger manufacturers use for high load, extreme duty. Best of all, by eliminating the pulley drag, you will add 5.4 HP and 7.5 Ft-Lb of torque.
74.50 each ........ JDM idler 100mm pulleys 139 pair

http://www.outrageousperf.com/ 54.95 each Reichard Racing

http://www.rpmoutlet.com/lightaspc.htm 48.95 each MOTOBLUE

http://www.chikenearsengineering.com/ 64.50 each Metco

http://www.bandeperformance.com/store/Product.asp?pid=2 57.00 each Metco

some say thier experience with Metco's is they wobble and lack quality....some say they work great...

Does Ford make a 100mm pulley and is that the part # on the pic of the box?

I'm not interested in the high priced fancy pulleys, just the equivalent of the 90mm stock ones in 100mm. (They all use the same bearings anyway)

Does Ford have them from another application? I can get the 90mm for $20 from Ford. With shipping, all these other options are three times more expensive.

Thanks,
TB

Hey TB, I understand what your wanting. Wish I knew of a part number for you. I can say the stock pulleys are pretty crappy. I've got problems with mine and will be buying some high quality ones this winter.

As far as a gatorback belt goes.... I'm a bit tired of defending science 101 so... Lets do it this way.

Why do YOU think a gatorback belt causes more friction between it and the blower pulley?

Are gators more gription oriented or somethin?
