forgotten extended warranties
forgotten extended warranties
Just a quick thought for some of those other 2nd, 3rd, 4th owner trucks out there. While trying to find out a little more info about my truck after buying it, I walked into my local dealer and had them check OASIS for service records, etc. They were able to tell me all the work that had been performed on the truck. Also, to my surprise, popped up the first owners name and info on a 6 yr./60K mile warranty... I tracked down the owner and am meeting him tomorrow to transfer the warranty @ $50 cost to me. I'm just wondering how many other forgotten extended warranties might be floating around out there on some of your trucks. It's worth a quick trip to the service dept., but make sure you're standing next to the computer when they check if you can... some service rep. said something about the previous owners being "privileged information". It damn sure can't hurt to give it a shot.
You got a good ford dealer, the ones here on N.Y ****** suck. I had my dealer do an OASIS on my truck, and they told that there has never been one thing done to it. Not an intercooler recall or anything. Not even about any extended warranties. I did a car fax on my truck, and here is what I found out.
5/15/2002 @ 25,250, serive facility, Vechicle serviced,spark plugs replaced,ignition coil replaced,engine/powertrain computer/module cheked/ engine replaced remanufactured engine.
If I would have know this I probally would have never bought this truck as much as I love it. Than I go to get something warranty at the same dealer, and they print out the warranty, that the preivous owner had 72/75,000 mile coverage. Now I just spent about $1,500 on a 36/36,000. They never told me anything about this extended warranty. So they got more Money out of me by not telling me about any of this.

You should be able to cancel your second warranty and get a full refund. In fact, once you get it transferred over to your name, you can even get the original extended warranty (assuming it's a Ford warranty) cancelled and get a pro rata refund.
Also, I guess it goes without saying that if you have a Ford extended warranty and sell or trade your truck, you have the option of charging the new owner the pro rata portion of the remaining warranty and transferring it to him or cancelling and getting a pro rata refund on the unused portion.
