Shaved Calipers

Does anyone have a picture of their shaved calipers. I am needing to get a visual of how much and where they need shaved for the 15" Bogarts.

Thanks for any help,

Rocks

Ron the best way to do is it the way JDM does it.

What they do is take everything apart, remove the diff cover, the axles, every part of the brakes. Then you remove the bracket that holds the caliper on. You then have to open the braket up, so you can move it closer to the rotor. Then you take and remove about 1/4 of a inch all the way around the rotor.

Doing this makes it so you don't have to grind the caliper so it is paper thin like many other people do.

Talk to Jim he can tell you more, or maybee even modify the caliper brackets, and a set of rotors, and calipers so you can just swap them out, in exchange for your stock parts.

I know it can be done by grinding the caliper so it is paper thin, but the way I sugested is much safer, and I want to make sure you can stop at the end of the track.

Thanks for that link svt00L. Chris strikes again......LOL. And to think that some folks have to wonder why so many here wanted to help him out.
Thank You Chris....again .

Don, I hardly know where most of those parts are located....much less how to get them off and back on again:o . Remember....I do HVAC work, and mostly the paperwork part of that.
I will check with Jim next weekend. Is that the way he did Jamie's truck? Maybe I can talk Jamie into pulling oner of his rears to let me look at it. He should have plenty of time after the first round...LOL . I hope you follow the crowd out there....it would be good tyo see you again before the long winter break.

I have to say, I was living in wonder land on this one. Somehow I figured I could just whip out the grinder and knock a hair off here and there. This looks like major surgery. I already have commited to the 15's...so I suppose I am going to have to figure this out.

Thanks again to both of you....and Chris.

FWIW, I'm not familiar with the technique Don is mentioning above, and it may be a better way, but as always there is more than one way to skin a cat...

or something...

in any event, I just had to change my rear pads on monday afternoon before driving up to JDM. too many burnouts without a line lock had trashed the brakes in only 20,000 miles. so my calipers have been back there shaved for one year now and there are no signs of any problems, cracking etc. I wouldn't call them paper thin by any means, but that's a matter of opinion.

just my .02

later,
chris
