Clunking Sound When Parking

I'm considering a Ford Lightning as a purchase, but the truck I test drove last evening made a clunking sound when I parked it, and when I pulled out of the lot. I drove around the parking lot a final time and it made the same sound just as I stopped dead and turned the wheels a bit.

If I had to make a guess, I'd say the sound came from the front section near the right front wheel well.

Is this normal, if not, any ideas what might be wrong?

Thanks.

Do a search for "The Clunk". Its a common "issue".

The drivers side lower control arm is slotted and allows a little movement which you hear as a clunk. It can be fixed by buying special washers that you put in to get rid of the slot.

Not a big deal and normal.

If you liked the truck, take it for another test drive and concentrate on everything else than the clunk.

Tim's got a nice write-up on the issue and the fix:

If the truck is still under warrenty, buy the washers and have Ford install them.

Have the washers, waiting for the clunk...
