Where does the T fitting go on engine to monitor oil pressure?

The oil pressure sender just above the oil filter. The stock setup is just a oil pressure switch, it's either on or off, so its really not showing pressure. Sorry, no pics. It would be hard to shoot a photo there anyway.

 

So how would I get to show oil pressure on my autometer on the tri pod?

 

You would have to buy a new oil pressure sending unit to mount to the block. A universal one is probably available, you just have to make sure the threads match to the block.

Better yet, find some kind of "two headed" adaptor so that your original guage will work with the pressure switch and your autometer guage would work on a actual pressure sender. That could be what your t-fitting is for!

If you disconnect the oem guage, your check engine light will stay on!

Parts list and How-To

Best bet is to go to a hardware store with a nice selection of brass fittings, get under the truck and draw your own conclusion. It can be done, but it is more of a look-see process. All fitting sizes are 1/4" unless otherwise noted:

2 - 90 degree
1 - T
1 - 1/4 to compression (for sending unit)
1 new roll of teflon tape
1 - 1" male/male fitting.

NOTE: this is a good time to change your oil as loosening/removing the oil filter makes for much less mess when the OEM sending unit is removed. BTDT.

Install the elbows AFTER fitting the "T" into the block.

To get the wires throught he firewall,

1. Trace the black boost tubing you tapped into and gently unseat the gromet toward the engine bay.
2. Use a Dremel tool and a small drill bit to carefully burn a hole in the gromet.
3. Feed the wires though the gromet(cab to engine), grab the wires, and pull 'em through.
