I rode in a Joe Gibbs truck about a 2 month's ago at my wifes dealership while the JG guys were making the rounds of the local chevy dealers trying to sell them a franchise license. The owner and I spent about a half hour in that thing ringing it out.

About 2 weeks after that I spent one afternoon driving a friends ram SRT-10. Seat of the pants impression, the Chevy was quicker, much easier to launch, and felt like it had a lot more low end torque than the dodge. The dodge felt stronger from about 80/90 and up. The dodge would bark the hell out of the tires shifting to 4th at 100mph everytime, and it was 95 degrees that day. The dodge rode better, felt like it handled better, had much better traction, and just felt like a much better constructed vehicle. Can't say I agree with their choice to use 22" tires, but they never asked my for my 02. We laid down about a half dozen sets of these with the dodge

BUT after spending time in both of them, I can honestly say I'm not scared.

Sorry I didn't have my camera with me when we drove the JG Chevy.

BTW F150SVT, the chevy motor is 4.8, not 4.9

Good catch, rainman. The 4.9 reference was a typo on my part. I stated it correctly in my earlier post, however.

By the way, those short 1st to 2nd shift strips indicate some pretty rapid shifting in the Dodge. Looks like fun!

Outer Banks

By the way, rainman, I checked out your site and noticed the nice photos of the Outer Banks. We are staying for two weeks in a big rental house on the beach in Corolla next month. (Hope the weather holds.) Big family reunion. Beautiful place. Looking forward to it.

Shifting in the dodge was easy. For that thing to have such a long shifter handle, the shifts are really short and precise. Third is a bit tricky if you are bang'n really fast, but it just took a couple tries to get used to it. I was most suprised by the lack of low end torque. Don't get me wrong, it is a strong motor, but if you don't come off the line hard enough to light em up, the thing falls on its nose like a drunk pig. Very difficult to launch. The "nail it and hold the f on" launch the L has is much more consistant and less dramatic. Kind of hard to screw up lauching the L.

As for the Outer Banks, I've still got a house down on the southern end near Cape Lookout. Hopefully that new storm will head north and stay offshore. Corolla is indead a beautiful place. Enjoy your trip!

One last thing, I've got the video of the burn out that left those marks if someone can host it. I still haven't figured out how to compress it yet, so it is f'n huge. I could use some IT guidance.

rainman,

Two of my sons (flying in from Columbus, OH and Dallas) are wishing for a low pressure front to stall about a hunderd miles off shore. They are both surfers and claim that that would give them some bitchin' surf while giving the rest of us lots of sunshine.

As for myself, I'm towing my motorsikle up, so I'm just voting for lots of sun.

Don't expect too much out of the Joe Gibbs truck, because it is just a 4.8(if you want a manual) or a 5.3(only comes in auto) with a decently ported eaton(magnacharger) M112 running only about 5 PSI!!! That is why it is not very fast. They also made the pulley a press-on style which is not the same as the other magnacharger bolt on ones so if you want to raise the boost you have to change the whole nosepiece out which costs around $400-$500. You would get better performance if you bought a stock truck, and put on a magnacharger which runs about 6-7psi which for an extra $200 you can get a 3yr, 36k mi drivetrain warranty with it.
They like to claim that it "competes" with a lightning, but the only real way it competes is that if you want you can get a 5 speed one.

Just my $.02
