blown heater hose

hey every body, newbie here. wondering if anyone else has run into this. the other night i was giving someone a ride and at the top of third gear wide open, the whole truck, road etc. completely filled with white smoke, i was sure the engine was done for, as i coasted for an exit waiting for the temp gauge to peg or oil press. to drop nothing happened, when we stopped after the smoked cleared we noticed the lower heater hose coming from the pass. side fire wall had split in the middle, pissing all of the coolant out. i talked to a few local guys about the possibility of lifting a head and pressurizing the coolant system. and had everything checked out. the truck still runs fast, good compression, no water in the oil etc... the hose seemed a little soft were it burst so i hoping its a fluke. i have a kenne bell blower at 15lbs. (sometimes 17lbs before the shift ?) and pretty much ever other bolt on.

what does everyone think -thanks

From: Colorado,
Had a similar story from back in 1970. Blew a heater hose on my 67 stang. 390 4-speed. Scared me just like you. Found a all night laundry mat and a empty bottle to slowly fill up my radiator 12 oz at a time. Then drove to a gas station and cut the hose and put in a pipe nipple and two hose clamps. That got me home.

For the next 25 years I carried a short peace of hose. A peace of 1/2in copper pipe and hose clamps in case it happened again.

LOL it never did. Seems like everytime something happened I started carrying that item for a future emergency. I don't do that now that we have cell phones.

Now that I have jinxed myself. I better go out and start loading the L with everything I have. (Good thing its a truck)

I like these little stories about personal experiences.

The exact same thing happened to me at the top of 2nd. I too thought that my motor let go. I was never so relieved as when I found that split heater hose. The only thing that sucked was that it was a Friday night. I had to cobble together some fittings and hose to get me back on the road again til Monday.
