Need help understanding SES light - code 401 thrown

Check engine light has come on two days in a row now. I'm getting code 401 from my OBD II scanner which in the book states "Exhaust Gas Recirculation Flow Insufficient Detected".

What exactly does that mean?

you might need to get a new egr valve, but i'm not quite sure...my brother in law had a ranger and it threw the same code, the check engine light would go off when it was colder out and come on when it was hot out. I think you just need a new egr valve but i'm sure others will know better

check the vacuum line that goes to the top of the EGR valve. It might have melted to the EGR tube

Actually, that's what it was. I've already fixed it. The little protective covering on the tube had slid down - must've somehow moved it down during the plug change. Anyway, it was melted completely in two. I ran down to O'Reilly and found some replacement tubing for $5. Also got a tie strap to fasten that protective covering on the tube down - that way it won't slide down again. I've been out driving for about half an hour now and no further problems.
