Dealer Fix for Clunk
Dealer Fix for Clunk
I took my L into the SVT dealer yesterday to get a clunk investigated in the front end. It did not appear until I had installed a 1"/2" drop and had it aligned. Their fix was to grease the front sway bar bushings and they chraged me $60+. I asked the service manager how can this be maintenance billed to me if there are no lube points for the bushings and nowhere in the maintenance log does it refer me to do this. He said it was like brake pads, when they wear out you have to fix them. A consumable. My truck has less than 25k miles and I don't think any suspension bushings should be wearing out in 25k miles. Do I have a good beef with Ford here? I also asked the service manager about the "clink washer" fix, and he looked at me like I was from Mars. Do I have to do the washer install myself? Will I need to get it realigned?
After I pay the bill, I get to the truck and it has 3 scratches down the side and the wash job is the worst I have ever seen. Now I have to make an appointment with the Ford body shop to get the scratches fixed. On top of that, I don't think their little lube job fixed anything. AHH!!!!
Sorry, just had to vent.

Sorry Bro
We have all heard this song more times then we like. Somtimes you get lucky but sounds like you didn't.
Do the clunk washer yourself. All you need is a jack and a safety stand and a couple of wrenches.
In the future I would not authorize the repair untill they give a estimate or somekind of idea phone call or notification to get your go ahead.
I don't think your mods would have caused abnormal wear. I traded in my 99 with 40k miles and it felt tight as can be. I put the clunk washers in it when I bought it used ad 20k and reused them in my 04 around 100miles.
I would not even bother taking your truck back to get satisfaction. You need to look for a new dealer for warranty work.

The Ford clunk fix doesn't work. You will need to buy your own washers.
I don't know if it will need realigned.
I don't see how they charged you $60 for a 5 min.(?) job.
And most dealers lude the steering stops, not the sway bar.
