i also have the alpine IVA 1004 in dash. I hooked the brake wire to the brake and the line that was supposed to run to the parking brake i ran to a switch. then the other lead on the switch i grounded. All you do is hold down the brake pedal flip the switch and it disarms the safety feature.

Thanks for the help. Couldn't you just run the brake wire to the brake and then ground the other?

Also how did you wire the brake wire and where was it at?

I have a friend who is a professional installer, so I didn't do my own install, but from my understanding there is a wire that you would normally run to the park brake pedal. when the brake is applied the wire gets grounded and the dvd or tv works.

so all you have to do is run that wire to ground permanently and the dvd/tv will work at all times.

the systems may have gotten more complicated than that, but I don't know for sure. also I'm sure different manufactureres use slightly different methods.

I have a friend with an older alpine unit that has to go through a multi step procedure in order to view a dvd, something like press the brake 3 times, vehicle in park, park brake on, blah blah blah. a bunch of bs if you ask me.

good luck.

later,
chris
