i think Vinnie was simply trying to say a SA95 is good til the end of 2005 then you would need a new helmet. most tracks let you get away with a motorcycle helmet but the NMRA is cracking down mainly due to the nitrous fire that burnt on of the racers pretty severly. the SA rated helmets are made with a flame retardent liner
From NHRA.com:
"Do I need a helmet, and if so, what kind?
A helmet is required for the driver of any car or truck running 13.99 seconds or quicker in the quarter mile, and for the rider of any motorcycle. Most drivers can use a helmet meeting SNELL M85, M90, M95, SA85, SA90, SA95 or K98 specifications. Professional category and some alcohol burning vehicles require an SA rated helmet. It is important to note that the helmet rating must be designated on a tag INSIDE the helmet, or sewn to one of the helmet straps. The designation stenciled on the exterior of the helmet is insufficient for NHRA technical inspection. Also, some tracks require a helmet on ALL drivers, so check in advance."
From the Snell Foundation Web site:
"Snell examines, revises, updates and republishes many of its standards about every five years. Once a new standard is published the previous one becomes inactive. That is, The Foundation no longer performs certifications or distributes serialized decals for that standard. For example; the M-95 standard became inactive upon the release of M2000."
NASA rules:
"All participants shall utilize equipment that meets or exceeds these minimum requirements, while driving on track:
1. Use a proper fitting helmet that meets Snell 1990 (SA1990; M1990) or newer (or equivalent) standards for cars or motorcycles.
Other organizations may require that the helmet not be older than five years, but that does not mean than a helmet of the next-oldest standard is automatically allowed or not allowed. For instance, my August 2003 manufactured M2000 may no longer be useful after August 2008, even though it is the next-oldest standard (assuming that there is an M2005 by then). Do not confuse the two issues.
Also, individual states may impose stricter regulations. From MM&FF:
"Safety rules can vary from state to state. In certain states (such as New Jersey), helmets are mandatory regardless of elapsed time. In Texas, you don't need to wear a helmet unless you're quicker than 13.99. It's best to check with the tech staff at the track before even going to the races, though most facilities will rent you a helmet if you don't have one."
Finally, individual track rules may be different. So you need to call ahead to find out.
The only safe bet is to buy an SA2000 full-face helmet. And check the manufacture date on the inside label to make sure that you are not buying stale stock.

I just bought a new helmet last year. Since I ride a M/C I bought a M/C helmet. I use it at the driving school events I go to without a hitch. Now I have entered a SVT Ontrack (Texas World Speedway) in Oct. and the info I received said that motorcycle helmets WILL NOT be allowed! I really do not intend to buy a new helmet just for SVTOA. I'm going to try to sneak it by.

Silver with flags Pyro model. $80.00 less than list slight paint blemish. I can't find the bad spot though. Picked up driving and pit gloves at the same time for the same shipping cost $12.00. It is hard to figure out which model you are looking at so open 2 browser windows and do your homework on this one, it should be worth it!
