Where's the encouragement?

From Steve's New Year's Resolution post:

Detailed and truthful first person (not posts like "my friend got screwed by...") posts about positive and negative experiences with F150online Supporting Vendors will be encouraged within the context of a thread and will not be removed...

Yet, a post was just deleted. I had never read about this guys situation before. I didn't see a dead horse being beaten. What's up with that?

Management's Option ... Read the posting
requirements ... Seems crystal clear to me.

(Wait, am I agreeing with Doug again? ...
Gonna be a primo year, methinks..... )

IF YOU HAVE AN ISSUE WITH A SUPPORTING VENDOR, RESOLVE THAT ISSUE WITH THEM DIRECTLY, NOT ON THESE FORUMS.

No exceptions. If you do not agree with this policy, please refrain from posting on this forum. Thank you.

Is there a difference between HAVING AN ISSUE with a Vendor and HAVING A OPINION about a Vendor?

Just wondering, not asking for more trouble!

I'm with Ed and Ben_g99 on this one. Deleting his post was WEAK.

That also means we shouldn't have any confidence in the "supporting vendor" title. Means nothing if it's just fluff to make you feel better.

That would be true if he were trying to resolve an issue; but he isn't. He did exactly as instructed and took it up with the vendor. At this point all he is doing is sharing his experience. It's not like he posted: VendorX is screwing me! He won't do this or that. What should I do?
He was simply recounting his experience with a vendor after all was said and done. Can you see the difference?

The thread was removed because it was (in my opinion based on my experience in running this site for nearly seven years) posted only for the purpose of trying to resolve an issue that should be handled directly with the vendor (as observed by Cliff) and stir up controversy, not simply to share a negative experience.

The fact that this was posted here as a direct result of it being removed from another site was a good indication. Translation: if it had not been removed from NLOC, the poster would have never posted it here. Sounds more like someone using our site as a pulpit rather than trying to help others out. Other's intepretations will vary, but I made the decision to remove it based on experience and past history.

And I respect that decision, however, ...

How so? This thread was helping others out that are also about to make a $10,000 purchase!

But, I am going to let this go and I like it here and I want to enjoy my stay. Others could have benefit from the original!

You posted one reason why it was moved just then.
The post was someone posting a link to someone else's post about their problems with a vendor. That isn't a "First Person" post. A "First Person" post is you telling us about your experiences with a vendor.

I thought that the post here was a link to what he had already posted on NLOC. We very well can't tell at this point since the post was deleted. If it was someone posting a link to another's post, I agree with you.

Steve,

I can appreciate your point of view. Your board - your rules. However, I think it's because of the fair job that you and Doug do that this person posted their experience here. Is it ever a good time to share a costly experience with a SV? The impression it gives is that being a SV buys immunity to negative feedback. I didn't see any of Jerry's LFP threads deleted. I don't think they should have been. I feel that all of these negative and positive experiences with sort themselves out. What is it that generates most of the controversy, the orignal posts or the alleged preferential treatment SV's seem to get. I think all of our SV's are great - but not perfect.

Based on this response how could anyone ever post a negative experience? This type of post would inevitably "stir up controversy" even if was not meant to. Also, even if this case had been handled directly with the vender beforehand, and everything was “taken care of” by the vender, the negative experience still happened. I wouldn’t care if JDM covered all the costs, I would think about taking my business elsewhere based on what I read.

Other than the obvious ones, an incredibly small number of threads are removed from this forum that require an interpretation of our rules, probably on the order of one or two per month, out of tens of thousands of messages posted.

There are hundreds, if not thousands, of threads that are on this forum that reflect positive and negative experiences with vendors, supporting or otherwise, that are here for all to see, going back to the late 90's.

I stand by my decision as to why this thread was deleted.

as Steve said there are thousandas or tens of thousands of negative posts - both about supporting vendors and others - for many years as Brooks said we have insisted that only first person experiences be posted .... trouble comes when folks who werent involved post hearsay or worse.. or when 3rd parties chime in to bash ....
