Ford GT vs L 5.4L engine differences

I saw the top gear show on the GT. It says the L and the GT have almost the same engines. What's the difference between the two?

wondering how they got more power out of it. anybody have specifics on what they did to the engine?

thanks

oh wow. ok. The dude on the vid said they were close. apparently not.

whats the differences between the eatons?

sorry, for the noob questions. I'm a noob to the L world. I plan to ditch my mustang and get an L early next year. So I like to learn as much as I can about a car/truck before I jump into it.

The GT has 550hp.

Actually, that should be 380hp vs 550hp. They've upped the ante on the hp rating. Suavy must be doing something right.

Isn't the GT motor also a dry sump system?

I read an article in Hot Rod that also said that the crank, is different. If I remember correctly the radii on the journals had to be reworked. Also the rods are different, and I am pretty sure the cams are also different. So as you can see engines are similar but very few parts are the same.

Joe

Update:
Here is a link to the Hot Rod article that has lots of details and pics of the engine.

Is that the Top Gear where he runs out of fuel after doing 4mpg?

Had that over here last week, definately the best show for a long time. Funny thing is that for the past year or so since the GT was announced the presenter has been hankering after one and so was plugging Ford and making every sucking up comment known to man for Ford. Made entertaining viewing it has to be said.

Looks like he's got his wish now

It's my understanding that we did get the nod to have the new lightning engine built in our plant. As far as it being hand built I would like to say yes as far as Romeo is concerned.

We have what is called a NICH line. At the NICH all our hand made engines are built. The Cobra, GT-40 and now the new Lightning engine.

I'll keep you all posted when we actually build the first one!

The GT -40 motors are so friggen awsome I drewel every time I see them. We have our managers daily meeting in our dyno lab and the always have one or two there torn down.

Yes the rodes are diffrent the tops are ground diffrent for clearance.
