High intake air temps

I am seeing up to 145 IAT's when i am sitting at a light or come to a stop. 106 when I accelerating hard. Then when i am cruising i see like 91. This is on an 83 degree day. Do these seem high? Also does anyone else use Auto Tap software and if so does it have IAT2 data because i can not find it.

These are IAT1's, right? Do you have an open air filter under the hood? When I had mine I saw the same thing you did. About 7-9 degrees above ambient was as good as it would get, and then only under a steady state cruise. Stopped at a light it rose dramatically, and then took quite a while to come down. I swapped to an Airraid enclosed system that seals to the hood and draws air through the fender. Still using the 12" filter. My cruise temps will drop to within a degree of ambient. The in-town and stopped temps will still increase, but a good 20+ degrees cooler than with the open element air filter. The biggest difference was how quickly they drop once you start moving; 20-30 degrees in a block whereas with the open filter I was lucky if it dropped 3-5 degrees in 3-4 blocks!

Are you using an aftermarket intake? If so, what configuration? It does seem a bit high yet the intake config is key to getting to root of the issue.

AutoTap has IAT2 built in. The parameter is named Secondary Intake Temperature.

Well here is my configuration. Polished C&L intake pipe with IAT mounted under it, and a Pro M 92 mm with built in cone filter.

Thanks for the quick responses. And Speedin Bob thanks for helping me use my auto tap(seriously i never would have found it)

The aluminum intake looks great but does hold in more heat than the factory setup. Also the open element filter is the other reason it's so high. It was an eye-opener for me because so many people here run the open filters.

Normal...

Built:

Completely normal. I have a temp gauge in my airbox, right at the throat of the MAF.

I have seen this get as high as 160 degrees (95 degrees ambient, stuck in downtown traffic).

Cruising around stoplight-to-stoplight gives around 15-20 degrees over ambient.

Daytime highway cruising gives 10-12 over ambient, this drops to 8-10 at night (hot pavement effect with my hombrewed ram air inlet).

When accelerating hard you should see IAT1 temps drop down to near ambient ....

I always did - I have open filter with long tubes which would arguably be the worst case for under hood temps

Thumbs up gratuitous imagery.

BuiltL,

Glad to assist. Here's a screen shot of my current AutoTap config.

PSP Fast Air, but sealed to hood underside with a gasket setup i made. PSP box wrapped inside and out with DEI heat fabric (sticky on one side). open air filter inside box. sealing to hood cooled ambient even more, as PSP had an open top. i guess some of the other boxes, like the stock one are plastic and have lids. PSP is aluminum and no lid.

temps are always at ambient when cruising, even in hot weather; once stopped goes up under 10 degrees, unless sitting for a long time.

IAT2 (after intercooler) in 85 degree weather, at 45mph, runs approx. 112-115 degrees. i use a LFP Heat Exchanger, with 2 bottles of Redline Water Wetter. after a couple of boosted surges, IAT2 will increase to about 130-135, but decreases pretty rapidly (all at 85 degrees)

Just curious. What kind of temps do you see with a stock intake box?
