Question 2000 Lightning Intercooler problem

Looking for information on this intercooler problem.
There is a 2000 Lightning for sale here.
FYI $47000
According to the salesperson, it was imported new from the States back then.
Since we don't have Ford Warranty over here, the intercooler problem will probably not be taken care off.

Does this problem affect all 2000 Lightnings.
How do you know, this Lightning may have the problem.

And most important, what does it cost to fix this problem in the States.

Oh, I am not going to buy it, I have seen it in person and it looks kinda abused and way too expensive.
I am looking for info though on this subject.

TIA

Lightning

I think it would be the rare one that did not have the intercooler problem.

Most 99-00 Lightnings seem to suffer from it although it does not seem to raise it's ugly head untill about 18K miles or after.

To get the kit and gaskets in US will run you around $800 US.

Sure does fetch a pretty penny on that island of yours. Any place there that you could drive it to its full potential?

You ought to at least take it for a test drive

Whoa, Holland isn't an island. I was just there and I'm pretty sure it's west of Germany. So I would say that the Autobahn would be a great place to drive it.

Question

Thanks,

So $800 for the kit and gaskets.
And then you´ll also have labor.
How many hours does it take to fix this problem, do you think?

Yes, you are right. Netherlands/Holland is to the west of germany.

oooops!
Guess my geography isn't much better than my spelling.

I should have stopped sooner

$800 would be a low with 1K at a dealer for parts.

Not a big deal to change. Took me 3 weeks to get up the nerve and only 3 hours to do the job. Pretty straight forward stuff. You can't connect the electrical wrong. It only plugs in one way.

Good time to check the plugs for tightness and S/C rotors for flaking teflon. You will see it on the intercooler if there is a problem.

You sound like your looking for barganing power...

Is the autobahn nice to drive on? It has always seemed like the road of choice on the planet. Could surprise a few folks with the Lightning I'm sure....

Actually, I have never been on the Autobahn, the only time was when I was in the army, heading for Bergen Hohne in a convoy.

Here in Holland, speedlimit is around 60 and 75 miles. (100, 120 kmph)

I really like to own a Lightning one day, but who doesn´t.

Thanks for the reply.

If any of you guys have additional info, feel free to post.

Unhappy

Ooh, forgot to tell it also has the famous drivers side doorcrack.
46000 kilometres on the odometer.

You can see it from the intercooler if it needs a fix, you wrote.
Sorry, I don´t know much about the Lightning.
Is it starting to leak or something.
That´s probably why you need the gaskets.
What is that kit exactely?

The way i heard it was that when the truck was under factory warrenty and exported to UK/Europe etc then the warrenty was still valid so might find the recall has been done at a Ford dealer in NL.

For what I know there is no factory warranty on ford trucks exported out of the USA or Canada unless you buy one at an officially licensed ford usa dealer in the country where it is exported to.
This will only apply to the normal trucks.
SVT Trucks like the Lightning and the Supercharged Harley have no Ford warranty on them.

In fact you cannot even order them at an officially ford licensed dealer.

Is this different in the UK?

If you import one of those trucks yourselve, you have no factory warranty.
This sucks of course, IMO if you buy a new car/truck you should always have factory warranty no matter where you live.

Here in the UK when you buy something you automatically get a warrenty of at least 3 months depending on what the item is. I'm guessing parts of Europe and USA are different. When i was looking at importing one (still am) i was told that if i had any problems i could take it to any Ford dealer and they could sort it, this included any warrenty work. I guess you can buy a world warrenty if you buy one new from the US and plan to Export it

I doubt that, at least not here.
A European Ford dealer that sells the european modells wil not fix your US-truck under warranty.

And don't ever put any sort of coolant system leak stoppage junk. that too will just go right into your engine.
