drag tires

I am doing some mods to my truck and am very confused on what kind of tires to use for the track. I am looking for something that will be a close height to stock to it doesn't goof with the shifting or anything. I have two spare stock rims and are thinking that a set of drag radials for these rims would financially be the best for now? I don't care if I have to change them at the track. It sounds like the nitto 555R 305/45/18 are good? But would these affect the shifting and is there something better? Thanks Bill

Bill nothing is going to be better than a set of good ole fashion
28x10 16" Hoosier Full Racing Slicks. Yes many use the Nitto 555R's, and some have ok 60ft times with them, but unfortunatly some don't. My L friends that have them tell me they're as bad as F-1's on the street for normal traction UNLESS you really heat them up first. As for track some seem to like them, some don't, and pretty much everyone will agree if you got to change tires at the track, it might as well be to Hoosiers

You can find a set of good used Hoosiers on 16" Rims for usually @ $300 - 500

I would have to second Robs opinion. I have Nittos and I drive them every day around town, and while they are better than F1s they arent anywhere near close to the Hoosiers. I have a set of 16x10 rims with the Hoosier Drags mounted on them and Love everybit of it.

I assume you guys only race at the track?

I dig the Hoosier Drags. But for the street, nothing beats the versatility of a Nitto DR.

From: Pittsburgh PA,
I recently put on the 555 drs,and they are awesome on the street.Where I go and do my "'test runs" I can wot off the line and they just spin enough so that I dont bog, where the old f1s would just go up in smoke at anything under about 25mph.Now I can really feel the torque this think makes out of the hole.

While the 555DRs are an improvement,if you can WOT of the line, and not go up in smoke you need more mods

Exactly. I can WOT from a 30 mph roll and still bark my DRs. They are a fresh set too!

First of all you always need more mods. I run Nitto's at the track and every day driving. You really can't beat there versatility. At Fun Ford this year I had 1.75 60' with my 450rwhp and slapper bars. Goat was there with me on his QTP's and was about a tenth quicker with his 60'. On the street I launch the same as the track and they don't go up in smoke. My Shortblock does not need any more mods. I on the other hand do. HaHa

Since you have the 3.55 rear gears you might wanna consider some 26" tall tires. Especially if you still have a stock convertor and mild mods.
