Shane, have you started Moding the NEW SVT Yet ??
Shane, have you started Moding the NEW SVT Yet ??
Don't know what happen to the other post, can't even look at it ?
WHAT DID YOU GUYS DO ???
Shane, what are your Mod plans with the Cobra ???
And how does it feel now that you've had more seat time in it ???
Do you feel you'll be racing it, moding it ?
I notice a lot of our Brothers have made this move lately,
some keep the L, others can afford both, I can't
Like Shane I love my L more than anything I've ever owned before. I thought hard of making this move a while ago and buying the Mystic Chrome Cobra Convert, but they wanted
@ 55K (AT THE TIME) so I backed out as most of you know.
My question is, to Shane and others that have made the switch,
Are you happy you did ?
Have the Mod's responded as good or better ?
Is is as bad as I rememebr getting in and out of ?
(I had a 96 Cobra Convert)
AND DO YOU MISS THE LIGHTNING AS MUCH AS I THINK I WOULD ?
Don't worry, my L's not going anywhere at this moment, but should it ever blow and or get stolen (hehehehe) I just want to know if the S/C has made the Cobra's worth putting up with the down side of the stuffy interior, and impossible driving in wet and snow, (I got to imagine Traction Control Helped that) ???

Rob...
Ive been driving my 03 for almost a year now. I guess I can comment on it. The L and Cobra are 2 different vehicles. The Lightning had its 'bling' factor. I got a lot more 'nice truck' comments about it. I loved the torque of the truck, but the Cobra matches. The 6 speed of the Cobra is A LOT more fun to drive. The Cobra responds crazy to mods. With intake, exhaust, and a short shifter, on street tires I went 114MPH in the 1/4. A buddy of mine with the same mod's, but with a 2.8" upper pulley went 120MPH in the 1/4, and another buddy with a 2.8" upper and ported blower went 122MPH in the 1/4. I miss my truck quite a bit only because I had the built motor and had the potential to make some serious power, but... you can't complain about a factory stock forged motor. Right now im currenty running the following mods...
Steeda Intake
Steeda Tri-Ax Shifter
Magnaflow Cat-Back
Offroad X-Pipe
LFP Heat Exchanger
2.8" Upper Pulley
PSP Predator Tune
NX 75 Shot
The car flat out RIPS. Im thinking on the bottle the car will go in the mid to high 120's in the 1/4. These cars are just way too much fun...

Sounds like Mikey's Loving it, and niiiiiiiiiiiiiice list of Mods Bro I particularly like that last mod, SMOOOOOOOOOOOKING
No LightningGuy that is never the plan, but here in Lovely LI NY,
the weather changes quickly sometimes, and the frigging weather men haven't been EVEN CLOSE TO RIGHT for years.
In the Cobra there were MANY MANY days even the slightest dusting of snow prevented me from making it home, and there were also MANY "life flashing before your eyes" momements simply driving on the parkway in the rain when all of a sudden the rear decided to come say hello to the front. Mine was almost impossible to drive in even simple rain (again I got to assume the traction control helps that) And your right, I got stuck in the L a few times last year too, (now I have a second new car payment)
At some point and time in the next year or 3, I will have no choice but to give up two car payments for one, just thinking of my options......

Rob,
Shane had put some naked pictures in the thread and well that's not allowed.
Shane didn't put any pics in the thread. Anyway Rob the modding is about to begin and I've had the car what 2 days? I want to get the predator, put on that 2.8 pulley and open up the intake. We'll see what that does for me with a short throw. Then in the spring I may put on a cat back similar to the Silver bullet I had on my truck. Ill keep you posted Rob.

Good Luck Shane
and Yes the shifter mod is a must, and should be the first thing you do, it is a very easy and quick "TO DO" Mod,
only took me @ 1/2 hour or so when I did mine.
I took the L out for a niiiiiiiiiiiiiiice late night run last night,
I don't know what it is about it but I just want to burn rubber 24/7 with it. There I was coming out of a Store in this huge Parking Lot, and without anyone even asking, (I did see some little teenage girl look my way, heheheh) and here I am some bald old fat man going through the parking lot totally sideways in a cloud of rubber burning smoke.
I think I've found the fountain of youth with my Lightning
OR SOMETHING ???

Rob, you crack me up man
Shane,
The VERY first mod I recommend you do is a short shifter. I went with the Steeda Tri-Ax and I love it. Don't get used to the stock shifter at all, and jump right on the Steeda. After that, I went with a Steeda CAI, UPR Offroad X-Pipe, and Magnaflow Cat-Back. With those mods the Cobra should pipe out around 415rwhp. I drove like that for about 6 months before adding anything else...... its plenty of power.

My wifes Cobra has:
-Air Intake
-Cat-back
-my L upper
-SCT tuner w/ a JDM dyno tune
Thats it.
470 RWHP
She absolutely LOVES it.
We took it out all day tuesday w/ the top down going through the curves in the mountains. What a fun car.

Yeah it is a real fun car. I can't imagine it after a chip, open filter and more boost. The car would be insane. I'd like to do all that, I just don't want to rush into anything yet. I wanna do the basic mods and get the car moven but I gotta sell the stuff off the truck first. The only thing I can keep is the upper and the chip. If I do do mods, I think I'd rather do a predator than a chip. Also if I do a pulley, I'd kinda rather a bigger lower than a smaller upper anyway. But all the guys are saying I may need an alternator pulley then, and the lower pully is a pain to do. But I would rather do a lower if it were up to me. But I am still at the learning stage. I wish I knew what I know about the trucks about the Cobras. I'd jump right in. But I dont know half of the stuff I need to know before I start throwing more stuff at it. I'll keep you all posted once I remove the paper filter and pulley.

Vinnie how easy is that SCT tuner to work with? I'm not looking to make the adjustments on the fly, or really do any of the tuning. I just want to be able to load different tunes, and be able to load the stock tune if need be. Are dealerships more leanient on those things than chips? Or in the end are they the same thing? If the part is "plug and play" I think that's one of the first few things I'd do. The obvious cai with an open filter, the sct or the predator, and a bigger lower pulley is what I wanna do.

I assume you manage to drive your Lightning in the snow as well?
