Wow! I think I may order one! So the one you posted above is fully assembled? It comes with everything including a remote correct? I'm assuming you still need the following:

REQUIRES: (8) AA size radio batteries.
Tire glue.
6 cell flat battery pack with standard connector. 6 cell hump or
7 cell flat will not fit.
AC/DC timed or peak charger for 6-cell battery.
Long nose pliers, large and small phillips screwdriver.

Where can I get these? Sorry, I've never been into RC cars but this is too cool to pass up and it'll give me a Lightning to drive in the winter when the real one is hibernating

I have one...

I enjoy chasing seagulls in a local parking lot with it.
I went to a hobby shop near home and bought the batteries and charger.
It sits on a coffee table in my living room when not in use. To my wifes dismay

Could I use "peak" batteries with a non-peak charger, or the the other way around?
I haven't fooled around with electric r/c's for the past 4 or 5 years. But I think I can remember, the term "peak" as in a peak charger, means that the battery is "slowly charged" so the batteries last longer and you get a little longer run times by "peak" charging. And the batteries are truely fully charged. Hence the name "peak". But if you charge with a quick charger like the 15 minute chargers, the batteries don't hold their juice as long as if you had them peak charged. Because with a quick charger, your batteries only get charged 85%. Or something like that. From what I remember. Peak batteries are to be charged with peak chargers, and the regular batteries can be quick charged. It's been a long time since I've played with any "electric" powered r/c's, I think the last one I had was an Associated RC-10 T3. It was pretty fast. I'd say it would do every bit of 28-30 mph. The one I have now is a Duratrax MT-Pro with the Torq .16 engine, full bearings, and a 2-speed tranny. It used to be a monster truck, but I put oversize rims on it and low profile street tires and lowered the body about 2". I had a cop friend of mine clock it at 40 mph on a high school parking lot with his radar. No joke! It was faster than my friends RC10-GT. I think his clocked in @38 mph. But this was like 2 years ago, and gas-powered/Nitro r/c's have come a long way since then. If you haven't tried the Nitro's out, give it a shot. It's very addicting...and expensive. Which is why I don't fool with them much anymore.

I'd say building them is about as much fun as running them. I've built at least 5 or 6 of them in my lifetime. Which was my in late teens. It takes 5 or 6 hours to build one if you stay at it. Most of them come with straightforward, easy to follow instructions with detailed pics.

Sorry for bringing back this old post, but I have a question....Does anyone know of a site where you can get just the plastic body of the tamiya lightning. I do not want the chassis etc...just the clear plastic body.
Thanks.

Tamiya discontinued the body set a while back. There may be some places with the body set still in stock, but it will be hard to find. The hpi body is close but it is not quite as porportional as the tamiya one. I have seen the hpi one done up custom airbrushed and it looked pretty realistic. Another option is to find someone that does vinyl stickers and have some made. If you want the kit or ready to run one, try here [url]www.larrysperformancercs.com. This is where I work, we carry anything r/c car related. We do ship out of state also, if you want one call tues-fri and ask for Dan.

thanks for the reply. I was going to see if I could just find the plastic body but I guess I will just have to get the kit now...oh well. I was going to try to make a real fast one because I think there are limitations to the tamiya kit. I would probably only get the kit up to say ~40mph due to the gears on it. The shocks on the kit are crappy as well. There would be lots of wheel spin and limited traction. Thanks again.
