Bad PCM

My L is not running good at all. When it goes into the boost(high RPM's) it just dies, it is boosting up but laggs and back fires. Changed plugs and fuel filter. Took it into the dealer, and they said the PCM is shot and they are getting me a new one. They said the PCM is not allowing the boost to go into the engine. Anyone ever here of this???? Runs fine when out of the boost...

just curious anyone else have a PCM go south......

wait a second.

tell them to reflash it and see what that does.

if the PCM goes bad, then it doesn't work at all! not periodically,

tell them to reflash it.

What plugs are you using? I have seen this using non resistor plugs.

what if you did the boost bypass mod

that way the computer can do whatever it wants and there is still boost

That is true that part of the PCM can go bad. It is nothing more then IC chips that basically have inputs and outputs. You could have a chip where some of the outputs and/or inputs are faulty while others are just fine. The software would be fine as well. It would be like walking into your home and 4 of your 6 light switches work and the other two don’t that’s a basic IC chip…

The dealer should have some type of test they can run on the PCM to insure all inputs and outputs are working correctly, or to just tell them the PCM is working with no faulty hardware and/or software.
