OPINIONS NEEED -->anyone running: Stock block, 6# and Ported Eaton

I have to upgrade and I'm considering a 4# or 6# lower.

I'm running tr-6, would I need to change them to go to a 6# LOWER?

I want a conservative tune for the street, however for the track I'll be shooting for 11's.
I have a few other things I'll be adding.

Right now this is what I have:
3# lower
tr-6
Apten Ported Eaton
Phenolic Spacer
E-Fan
Cobra Water pump
JLP ram Air
F/t V/b
deep trans pan
(some other things, I don't recall right now)

Right now my PCM is reflashed and I have a 8-position SCT chip.
With tis I hit 425RWhp (corrected)

I know another Dyno tune is in my future with the 6#, but I think I can squeak by on a 4#.

How safe is a 6# lower, with a Ported Eaton on a stock block?

I use a 4# lower and a 2# upper. Ported eaton and about all the normal other bolt ons. I also use TR6 plugs.
With a shot of nitrous I have hit the 11's several times, but also with heavy mix of 100 octane. I would not make a 1/4 mile pass on the race side of my chip without a mix of higher octane. Good luck, the 11's are out there.

On my truck 4# + P.E. = 16.9 PSI right before the truck shifts.

I think you would be fine with a 4#, and even maybe a 6#, but I'd want a dyno tune before I stepped up to the 6#er.

i've been running 4lb lower 2lb upper for months now. no problems yet.

well the tranny did break the day i installed my blower, but the block's still in one piece...good luck. i'm hoping for 11's also, i recently purchased a wet kit, but its just to hot down here to even bother with putting it on or going to the track, my truck feels stock in this heat and humidity.

How safe is a 6# lower with a ported Eaton and a stock block?

Better question: How safe is a 6# lower with a ported Eaton and a stock block on pump gas?

Answer: Not very safe at all. During the winter, you might get by with it, but during the summer it is a good recipe for detonation. The good news, however, is an easy fix.....Add enough 100 or VP 116 to bring the octane up a couple points and you'll be in pretty good shape. The VP is expensive, but it takes a lot less to get the desired result. The desire result, of course is: More fun!

hmmmmm. my truck likes to detonate more in the winter than summer. i guess its that added 2-3 psi of boost from the cold air.

HOnestly,
I don't drive my truck alot (never in the winter) but I drive it fairly hard. (no holeshot from every light) but I usually don't back down from any potential races (unless cop is near)

I have a 6pounder with a self ported eaton but with long tube headers make sure you have the long tubes if you decide on the 6pounder. Best time 11.84@114 with this set up PSP tune. This was in mid 70 degree weather. So I'm sure I still have some left when it gets down in the lower 60's.

I have a 6 lower 2.8 upper and a ported blower... i also always put in 93 octane and i havent had a single problem yet. It has to do alot with your tune and octane of your gas imo. I also know a great guy to get your blower ported..!cough WASP cough
