Wow, god did I miss them!!!
I put my Pirelli's on my recently purchase 2003 rims in prep for my racing tomorrow at Pocono Raceway (it may rain, so I needed some "rain" race tires, the r-compounds are not quite water friendly) and MAN did I forget the increase in traction.
I've been driving about 1000 miles on the Toyo Proxie S/T's that came on my HRE 645's as I mulled over some rim options and have been suffering. (the 2000 rims the Pirelli's were on don't fit over the brembos) Since I needed some sticky rubber for racing, I bought a set of '03 rims, slapped them on there, and to save myself time tomorrow put them on the truck tonight.
WOW. I forgot how beautiful it is.
If you have not run a set of ULTRA-HIGH PERFORMANCE rubber tires, GO DO IT. At this moment in time, the fact that a Proxie S/T can last for 50k miles matters not! GRIP IS WHERE ITS AT.
SPEND YOUR MONEY.
GET GOOD TIRES.
You'll love it.
Daniel
PS--
After getting them all mounted up and getting the tire-monitoring system online I went for a highway cruise and ran into a Lamborgini (the baby Mercilago, whatever its called)...weeeeeeee, we had some fun, and I didn't have to back off on the cruves this time! Hallalujah!

Sounds fun!!!
I have some winter tires on aluminum explorer wheels for winter use 235/75/16.
When I switch back in the summer I kinda get that same feeling your describe.
I can hardly imagine taking it to the next level like you did. Wish I had the room to store all the stuff I want.
Enjoyed your post!

Dan: I agree. I use to driver's school my 1991 Camaro Z281LE and I used BFG R1's on it. What a 'world' of difference between on track and off track(GY F1's--if I remember correctly?). Btw, it had a six-point rollcage and many mods--suspension and engine--came stock with Corvette brakes.
I have been using the ST's too on my L for about 29,000 miles. At first, I praised them to 'high-heaven' but my mind has changed now. They have very little traction ability. They are so 'scary', that I won't go WOT
! Would NITTOs be a better choice for the street?

The Traction is great, the handling is AWESOME.... Toyo has always been known as a "bargain" tire. Put them on your commuter and put Nittos on your L.
