Big Brake Rim Question

I just plunked out for some '03 Lightning rims as my race rims, but I wanted to verify their caliper clearance for my truck. (I need to get them mounted tomorrow).

Normally, test fitting wouldn't be a big deal except that we've got intense thunderstorms with flash downpours at the moment.

Anyone know for sure if the 2003-2004 rims will clear Brembo GT calipers?

Daniel

ah crap.

only the 2002 wheels do?

damn, they just came today too after I got back from the tire shop. guess its time to get an RMA from tirerack.

and I have to get them mounted on my HRE's now, which means more extra mounting and unmounting later.

What a PITA.

Grrr.

Whew!

Well, thankfully, Cliff you were wrong.

I just went out (it finally stopped raining) and test fit the '03 rim and it had plenty of clearance both front and side.

Saves me alot of trouble.

Well, I tried to use a freinds 03 wheels and they didn't
clear the caliper by enough ... paper thin margin, and I
thought that it was too big a risk of something F'ing up.

Maybe there is enuff variance between mountings and fitment
that yours work ... Check closely though ... just because it
rotates doesn't mean it FITS .... LOL

I wonder what's the difference betweenmy 02
setup and y'alls ??? I swear they don't fit ...

Could there be that much variation in the hats and rotors?

I dunno.

I had remember reading that I only needed 2-3/16's of an inch more and they would have fit under my 2000 rims..

Then one time, it was either DreaminAboutL or CloneTek that posted up that the 2002+ rims had another 2/10's of an inch of backspacing.

I've got more clearance with these rims ('03) then I had with my shaved calipers on the '00 rims.

Two things I can think of which could account for this.

1. A different off set hat used on kits thus moving rotor center line 'in' more.

2. A different thickness rotor selected with alternate hat to also shift it closer to the knuckle.

You pretty much start your build from the knuckle and related clearance then build 'out' from there.
