I need help please!!!

I got the truck detailed today. I asked them not to spray directly on the electronics when the steam cleaned the engine. Well as you can guess, it runs like $^!% when past 1/4 throttle. At first the idle was obviously rough and I knew I had a miss somewhere. But as I drove along, the rough idle disappeared. I removed the connectors from each coil pack one at a time. I could tell a difference with the idle when I removed each one. I could not tell if there was any one in particular that was giving me the problem.

It runs okay from idle to about 1/4 or so. After that, it starts to stumble and shake badly. This takes place at about 4-6 lbs. of boost.

Any suggestions on how I should procede?

I need help as I have to drive the L to work everyday.

my guess, probably got a quantity of water down in one of the spark plug holes. theres a chance that it damaged the coil or plug, but there's also a chance that with normal driving and heat it'll dry up or steam out of there.

i'd suggest removing the coils and inspecting for water in each spark plug hole, but that'll be a PITA, so maybe just drive it for a day or two and see if it clears up.

either way, good luck.

later,
chris

From: Colorado,
I don't have much experience with this but I thought the whole idea of steam cleaning was to reduce the amount of water and have the heat melt away heavy grease.
Moisture from steam can get into areas that normal water wouldn't.

I would think the detailer would be a professional. Have you asked them about the problem and check to see if they would pay someone to correct the problem since the created it?

Certaintly not very professional.

I didn't think our trucks were any more sensitive than a regular F150.

I don't blame you for being angry.
Please let us know if you find a specific problem area that caused your problem.

same **** with me when i had a leaky coolant hose, when i was out with surgery, it was slowly leaking onto a coil pack and burnt it out

when i finally be able to drive the truck again, it wouldn't run right after 1/4 throttle
idle fine, but when give it gas a bit, it would be very rough

u probably lost yourself a coil pack bud

give it a day to dry up or get your computer scaned

very easy way to fine out which cylinder isn't firing right

Thanks for all the help guys. The problem has taken care of itself by way of evaporation. I am still going to pull the coil packs and dry them and inspect the plugs.

I had a lighter stumble this morning when I started for work. After I had traveled about ten minutes, I realized I had forgotten something at home, so I turned around. Upon leaving again for work, I decided to test the L again. This time there was no stumble just the usual acceleration thru the gears. Boy was I relieved. I have learned a lesson.

I wish there was someone near I could watch clean their engine so I know the proper way to do it. Thanks a bunch guys for all the help. It is nice to know there is support and help from a great bunch of L owners.
