JimJr and ballast rule..........
JimJr and ballast rule..........
Since the post got closed and I was supposaby " owned " on the rule..........
There is no FFW rules that pertain to "ballast".
The rule stated fromt he IHRA book
I don't think people like Don and myself running with my jack and cooling fan and small generator in the bed are doing this to be "purpose of adding to the car's total weight".
I stated that I didn't know what the NHRA said about it and was basically calling out Black 2000 to come up with an answer seeing he had an answer for everything else.
There is a difference between running with "stuff" in the bed of your truck and having weight boxes which are there to purposely add to the weight of the truck.........slidding all over the place.
So explain to me again how I got owned??
There is no FFW rules that pertain to "ballast".
The rule stated fromt he IHRA book
Any material used for the purpose of adding to a car's total weight must be permanently attached as part of the car's structure,

They NEVER look BUT I cant imagine that Running the 1/4 mile with a floor jack and generator loose in the back is gonna make the tech inspectors happy.
AND if you win - your opponent then turns you in for having unsecured ballast .... And then you lose
Lots of people at the track use bags of lead shot from reloading - that way if the weather turns worse they can still run he number they need to without needing access to change the tune or the boost levels

you are right
I agree with you 100 percent. But I know I at least ratchet strap the stuff in, as well as Don. I wouldn't want my cargo getting damaged, or my bed getting damaged with the stuff flying around.
I just wanted to make the point that there is a difference between having items in the back of the truck........and stuff like weight boxes and lead shot used to weight the truck down.
I dont' put the stuff in the back because I wanna weight the truck down, I just wanna be able to leave the track with the stuff i brought......that's all. I'm not sure if it up to the tech inspectors discretion or not. If the stuff is strapped in, I dont' see the problem.........and have never had a problem. If the track has a problem with it........that's their right.
Just funny how someone posts how they thing everyone is so funny and think their god, but post how someone is "owned" when obviously they are misunderstanding the conversation at hand.

Your right, there is no rule from FFW, but the tracks sanctioning body sets the rules for the track and for the tech inspectors, NHRA has a similar rule

Tallimeca, I'm not interested in the pointless FFW argument regarding how someone dials-in their truck, but you're mistaken on the weight issue (not really sure why the issue was brought up?). The issue isn't why you put the weight in the bed. The issue is that the weight, for whatever reason its there, can become a dangerous projectile. If Don's Bolt hits the wall at 120mph+, the generator, floor jack etc. will go ripping through the tonneau cover and endanger him, the other competitor and the fans. You're arguing over semantics. An employee of mine is an NHRA division 4 Tech inspector, and I can tell you for a fact if he found any large unsecured objecs in the bed, trunk, or cabin of any car/truck, they would have to remove the stuff or leave. Tech guys don't care why the weight is there, only if its properly secured. Its not very bright, by the way, if you run down the track with a generator in the bed that has gasoline in it.

Point???
You guys are completely missing my point......
First off, neither am I really, this isnt' an argument I started so I why are you pointing fingers at me
I have no idea what Don actually has in the bed when he made his passes. If you read my post again rather than jumping the gun........maybe you will have a clue what i'm talking about. I was just giving examples of things I know guys have made passes with in the bed of the truck and tech inspectors didn't say **** about it being there. This is my point.
The rules you are reading about are in affect of weight to increase the weight of the vehicle..........I'm in agreement with you.
As far as running with stuff in the back of the truck, yes it is secured......i believe i said that already..........?????
What is the difference with having stuff in the truck of a car??? The trunk can't fly open????
You guys are arguing that is illegal to run with ANYTHING in the back of the bed that isn't bolted to the frame with a minimum of (2) 1/2 inch diameter bolts. This may be the rule........yes, but it happens all the time. If the stuff is secured, the tech guys aren't giving people a hard time about it. At least not about the small things that i'm talking about. I don't think anyone plans on running down the track with a washer and dryer in the back.
My only point is that some stated it is illegal to run with stuff in the bed. I had picked up my FFW manual and it said nothing about it, so I figured it must be up to the IHRA and NHRA rulings on the matter. I didn't see anything in the manual except pertaining to "ballast" to which is used to weigh down the vehicle. I had no clue what NHRA says so I called out the person who said it was illegal to enlighten me on it. Case closed.........let's go find another post to ruin over pointless bull**** shal we

Nice try at a save, but here is what you said in the other thread;
Illegal??? Hmmmm Page 43-47 of my 2003 FFW rule book in reguards to Tough Truck does not mention anything about not being able to run with any objects in the bed of the truck.
Please post proof that is is illegal to run with cargo in the bed of the truck

ok
Ok, Ok
That's exactly what it says............that's why I said please prove to me that it is illegal to run with anything in the bed. Anything in the bed. The rule says ballast. It doesn't not say i can't make a run with my gym bag in the back. This is my point. I agree with you guys about the rule........the rule is the rule. My point is there are things that the tech inspectors are not making people remove, so obviously the rule is not as simple as yes you can' have stuff in the bed, or no you can't. It depends on what is in the bed. You said no you can't run with stuff in the bed, it's illegal. Some things are.........yes. But others are not.
Now you are saying that it's not illegal to run with stuff in the bed as long as it is fastened down. That's not what you said in the beginning either. I didn't ask for the rules to be posted to prove any kind of point as far as I go. I clearly stated that I didn't see anything in the FFW, IHRA book, what did the NHRA say??? Period........the end. I said to prove it. The rule says you can run with stuff as long as it is fastened down. It doesn't say YOU CAN"T HAVE STUFF IN THE BED, IT IS ILLEGAL.
And what I am saying is from my experience, there is alot of things the tech inspectors are letting slide. That should say that the rule isn't as black and white as some of you are trying to say.
Why is that so hard to understand:o

Talli your going down in a big ball of fire............just end your attempts to save it and walk away from this thread. Your trying to pick at the finest of details now in a effort to save this abortion of a thread. you dont know when to quit.
Tallimeca, I wasn't trying to point fingers at you or step on your toes. I also realize you didn't bring up the argument of ballast, and that this whole FFW/dial-in/ballast thing is rediculous. It seems this thread is turning into an 'us' vs 'them' argument which wasn't my intention. My only point in this is the safety issue, and we're probably saying the same thing from opposite angles. All too often, car enthusiasts spend a billion dollars on go fast parts then skimp on the safety gear, which protects the most important part of the car....the driver. Rules have been constantly revised over the years due to serious racing accidents and deaths...they aren't made arbitrarily just to inconvenience racers. In the last two weeks alone a half dozen new rules have sprung up for Top Fuel and Funny Car due to Darrell Russells death in St. Louis. All the 'owned' comments are not necessary.
Nice
rscoleman.......no harm no foul
Your skull is apparently as thick as some others around here, and have the nerve to say how you think it's funny that people on this board act like their god.
Your trying to pick at the finest of details now in a effort to save this abortion of a thread. you dont know when to quit.
