Another all Lightning Final!
I understand what your saying about the track going away, but as far as the power loss goes, why not qualify hot, that way your hotlapped times will be really close or the same?
I guess it would be alot harder if on the day of racing, cooler less humid weather moved in compared to qualifying day.
Thanks for your input, I'm on the phone right now ordering stuff

Its great not to have to worry about your battery dieing from leaving the electric fan on and forgetting about it (been there, done that), I save on Ice. Hell sometimes I don't even raise my hood.
And since weight is not a big deal either I take the extra time to eat a few of the $20 J.R. Cheeseburgers.
Bottom Line- Its great to meet and greet new people. The racing is just a bonus, but it sure is fun to win.
VINNIE
Hey Vinnie
You get those J.R. burgers for half price cause you do such a high volume? Missed you at Norwalk this year. Guess you didn't need another 6 foot trophy. This year they had a dyno shootout for the car show participants. The guy that won had a mystic painted Fox body vert with a blown 347 putting down 650ish HP.
He got a trophy similar to yours. I'm sure your L could have given him a run for the trophy.
Congrats to all who raced at Norwalk. It was good seeing you all again.
Next one I'll be at is CORDOVA. Who else here will make it over to the Illinois FFW?

Bruce,
Here is a summary on how my races have gone this year.I am a newbie to "bracket" "open comp" style racing.I have never done it before this year as I always raced the heads up classes. They got to expensive to try and keep up so I made the move to the Lightning class.
So 1st event in Orlando.I sandbag a little.I don't add weight like some guys.I don't change pulleys like others.I don't have different chips. It is set up the same the whole time.I was just letting out a tad trying to qualify where I wanted. So needless to say I qualify with a 12.68.I am not sure what the truck will really run at this point since I haven't had any seat time with it.Safe to say I should be able to run the number though as I sandbagged a little but not alot.1st round and all goes well I run a 12.72 patting the gas a little and win.The next round comes and guess what?I spin the tires.I went from a low 1.8x sixty to a ridiculous 2.0x.So I run it all the way out and it could only muster a 13.00.Day over.Simple as that.No way did I sandbag enough to make up for spinning the tires that bad.Let me tell you first hand that sucks to not have enough to even come close to winning.I lost right at the start.(as a side note Orlando track sucked for traction)
That is one example.
Here is another:
Nmra Bradenton event.
Track is working pretty good and truck is going a little faster.I qualify with a 12.60 again sandbagging a little but not a lot.I just want to make sure I can run the number. Here I feel like I qualified a little to quick just in case I spin the tires again and was a tad worried about it.The track was so much better it wasn't an issue.Well Sunday rolls around for eliminations and a front has moved thru the area. Now I'm not completely dumb and know that I will probably run a little bit quicker because of the weather change.1st round.I'm racing a 10 second truck on a pro light.Well I hit the light awesome and I knew it.Truck hooked so no issue there. Now I'm just waiting for him to come chase me down.I'm getting near the end and I was killing him.Not terrible but way more then you want to when racing this style.I am thinking it was just because I cut one heckuva light and he cut one that was terrible.I let out around the 1000' and coast thru to a 12.49 at 101.25.Guess what?I lost.Breakout.I couldn't believe the truck actually went that fast.We aren't talking a cold front here, just some better air. What a friggin difference. My sixty was no better then any of the other runs I had made in Bradenton. It was a 1.70.My best there had been a 1.69 and worst was a 1.75.So I didn't pick up because I was toting tires.I picked up because of the weather change.
Last example though I have more.
FFW Gainesville
I qualify with a 12.72.Pretty good at sandbagging in that general area eh?Truck had been very consistent thru qualifying and won my first round.Welllllllllllllllll.Right after first round the skys took a huge dump on all us fine folks lucky enough to make it thru the 1st round.I don't know if you are familiar with FL but after the rain comes bright sun.It turns to pea soup for air.You sweat with any sudden movement. Here goes round 2.I cut a good light again and spin just a tad.I'm not sure if the rain is what caused the track conditions, the air,the prep or whatever, but it was my worst sixty foot of the event.A 1.91.Well the air was killing me.The truck just felt like an absolute turd and would not go.I was trying to push the gas pedal thru the radiator and no matter how hard I pressed it was just turdbox on wheels.Result? 12.89 on my 12.72 and that isnt good enough to win with how goo these guys that run the class are at this stuff. So again I get hosed because I couldn't run the number I qualified in the event with 2 days earlier.
These examples you see are with my slow a$$ truck.I wonder how much it effects a faster one?I don't know since I don't have one,but my guess is a little bit more then mine.
There is alot more to racing "bracket style" then just lining up and hold her to the floor and hope it does the same thing everytime. There is alot of thought, and lot of little tricks and tips that help. One of them is dialing the truck back.I hope this helps you a little bit better understand the class.

Bruce, I know I've butted heads with you in past threads, but what I'm about to say, I promise, I mean in the nicest, most sincere way possible....
It apears from your last couple posts in this thread that you honestly may not be very well informed as to how these events go down. (Nothing wrong with that, everyone has to start somewhere) The tough truck class isn't really designed as a spectator class....ya it can be kinda boring seeing guys sand bag trucks with 20K in mods. For that matter, drag racing in general isn't that big of a spectator sport, thats why it doesn't get much TV coverage. (at least prime time) Instead of being a little hostile towards people...maybe try honest questions, or just participation in these events, to see what its all about. I'm sure JL or JDM or PSP or any other tuner would be happy to talk you through some stratigy and techniques of bracket racing in different classes. Just by talking to Jim, and letting him coach me during a closed track day, I knocked 3 tenths off my personal best, and learned how to cut consistant lights.
Anyway...what it all comes down to is, we all just want to have fun with these trucks, and I'd be willing to bet, if you and me and tallimeca, and anyone else met up in person we would have a pretty good time bs'ing about trucks if it weren't for this internet stuff.
