Alternative to Hothckis/Bilstein shocks...

Call me inpatient, but I ordered my Hothckis/Bilstein shocks 2 weeks ago and at that time Hothckis said the shocks would be in 2-3 weeks. When I called to check status today, they said it would be another 3 weeks. I guess they get the shocks from Bilstein first then they're sent out to be valved.

Are there any other options besides the QA1s? The Hotchkis coils are rated at 960lbs. What about the Roush/Bilstein shocks?

SpeedJunky,

You have one of the best looking Lightnings I've ever seen! Why are you getting new coils? Your drop looks great!

Thanks! I already installed the Hothckis coils and it raised it about 1" in the front and it makes it look 100x better. At this point, I'm just waiting for the shocks.

Monty, i had to go through the exact same thing you did. I waited over a month and a half for the hotchkis bilsteins, but i think they're going to be worth it. I also just got my hotchkis 1915 coils today. Once i get my truck back from the dealer (warranty work - it's been two weeks) and put everything on i'll tell you how the suspension feels.

Two weeks? What happened Mark?

I don't think the Nitro Active shocks I have on there now are strong enough and I'm getting a little inpatient because they keep postponing the shock delivery date.

If they don't come through by next week, I'm going to go ahead and bite the bullet for a set of QA1s.

Wow, it doesn't sound like there are a lot of options for aftermarket shocks out there. Other than Roush, Hotchkis, and QA1s, does any other company make a *performance* shock for our trucks?

No, there isn't a whole lot of options out there. I tried calling Roush today and spoke with several people as I fronted as a hardcore road racer needing information about their shock and coils, but I got nowhere. Nobody at RoushParts.com has any info regarding the specs of their equipment. They all told me the same thing- that the engineers just don't release that information....what a load of crap.

So much for the Roush shocks.

Paul sells Penske drag shocks and the strange shocks are designed for the Mustang. I called them.

Afco makes a nice shock and they offer a double adjustable model as well.

Monty, i think you should hang in there and wait it out, i'm sure it'll be worth it. Your not going to be able to find a shock better than the hotchkis bilsteins unless you are willing to cough up quite a bit of extra money. The Qa1's are the next best thing and they are about double the price. Here are some double adjustables but they are insanely expensive. I believe these are the same shocks that Don's bolt runs; they are Varishocks.

the strange shock is designed for a mustang, but a few people are running them.

go to the track, put them on the softest setting and watch the rear end squat.

stiffen them up and they ride vrey nicely
