chip on top of a reflash?

I was wondering what would happen if you had a reflash from an SCT or Predator and ran a chip on top of that? Would the chip completely override the reflash programming or would it compliment it? For example, if I had +4 degrees of timing on my reflash and ran a chip with +3 degrees, would I see +3 degrees with the chip installed or +7?

And if it does override the reflash, when I remove the chip will the reflash still be saved or will my truck revert to the stock factory tune?

Also, would this setup be interchangeable between chip manufacturers? ie Predator flash and SCT chip or SCT flash and Diablosport chip?

you can piggyback. The chip will compliment from what I am told. With that being said you would be best off getting the chip from the same person that gave you the reflash so that they know what the base parameters are.

My understanding is a chip overrides the stock program. Since that is the case I would think the chip would override the SCT reflash since it is basically over writing the stock program. I could be wrong…

Best bet would be to ask this question in the Computer chips forum. Maybe one of the tuners will chime it to help you out and understand it better.

If it does override the programming, will removing the chip revert the truck back to the stock tune or the reflash tune?

From the reading I have done in many post it’s my understanding that when the chip is in the computer it overrides the stock program. Once the chip is removed it does revert back to the stock program or in your case the reflash which is nothing more then over writting the stock program.

Do you have a chip AND a tuner for flashing the computer through the OBDII port? If so it would be better just flashing the computer rather then using a chip. Chips can give you problems if the computer connectors have not been cleaned properly and if the chip is not seated into the connectors properly as well as taped down so it does not come loose from normal vibrations of the truck.

Well, I was thinking about doing a reflash for a regular street tune and a flipchip for winter/race tunes. I can probably pick up a used flipchip cheaper than I can a brand new SCT chip or something.

I would get the reflash locally and save a little money by not buying a chip.

There are supporting vendors here that can program you a chip that simply has a switch so you could have two programs on one chip (street vs. race etc) that you simply select by moving the switch.

That may be something to think about…

What about three programs? I am in need of a street tune, winter tune, and a race tune for race fuel. I'm just trying to find a cheap, effective way to achieve this without having to buy a $400 flasher or chip.

Talk to Mike Troyer, I posted his information at the bottom. He is a supporting vendor here and may be able to help you. He can definitely answer any questions you may have in regards to chips and reflashes and what is possible and not possible.

He is usually in the forum titled “Computer Chips” so you may want to post this question in that forum but your best bet is to call him at the number below and talk to him on the phone…

Well, one other thing I forgot to consider is how much access the chip has to the programming. I would have to run a 4-bank chip to completely override a reflash, which has access to 4 banks. Otherwise, would have remenants of the reflash tune when I install a 2-bank chip.
