just put on JLP filter kit
just put on JLP filter kit
My thoughts: looks cool, although i got the ram air box instead of just the regular one, so its got the hole in the bottom (or do all of them have that) and it must have been slightly damaged during shipping because the welds on the wider side of the box along the seam with the plate that connects it to the skinnier side of the box were broken. Other than that I'm happy with it. Oh and i'm not a big fan of the allen heads on the screws used to connect the MAF to the box but other than that it was good. And when i took it for a test drive, and got into the boost, the whine seemed twice as loud and 4x as cool as before. And then i started laughing like a little school girl becuase i was so happy. I am also thinkin of fabbing up a ram air and want to use the stock foglight locations as the inlet. Anyone done this? how hard was it?
Sounds great Birdy!!!
I don't like the sound of the quality control but everything else is great!
I ordered mine this morning so it will be next week for my turn.
I was putting the screen in front of my lower intercooler radiator and noticed that there is a gap on the drivers side that would be a great place to run your air up without sacrificing your fog lights.
I just got the regular box and will cut in a flange fitting on the bottom later if needed.
I forgot to ask about an outwear's pre filter but I guess that can wait a bit to.
Just put in my first tank of gas MPG figured out to be 15 1/2. That may go up after she breaks in a bit. I can feel the difference already.
I hope the new filter setup improves that. Will be a while before we both stop doing "SOUND TESTING".
I can just see you now. Coming to a light or stop sign and turning down the radio so you can hear the WHINE as you leave the stop. hehehehe
Hey wait a minnute..... I am not sure mine came with a radio

The JLP Box is def the best IMO,
AND WOO HOO "THAT EXTRA WHINE"
You should hear it with upper and lower pulleys added
and the Mother of all Port Jobs.
My schitt screams like a virgin getting dropped into
a maximum-security group shower,
OR SOMETHING

i am actually pretty happy with it right now. Kind of sleeperish , not too intrusive. At one point i was running a dumped flowmaster on my jeep so i can see myself making the lightning entirely too loud (although not dumped flowmaster style) somewhere down teh line.. before that though my next mods are going to be: chip, shackles, and sound upgrades...

TTT
Got mine today and it had no damage!!
I did notice when I screwed on the MAF that there was the tiniest of crack where the plastic meets the box. I thought fine dust could get in there so took them both off and looked around for some sealer.
Mine has the ram air outlet on the bottom also but I didn't get the nice kit they make. May do that later.
While out in my camp trailer looking for the RTV sealer I ran across this brand new spare flexable plastic sewage drain hose.
As luck would have it, I got it to slide over the bottom air box outlet and ran it down under the frame and back up to the side of the intercooler area. There is a rubber flap there and I tie wrapped the hose there.
It doesn't have the ram scoop but it may help and also won't pick up little stones and bugs as easy.
I think I got the drain hose kit at Wally world in the RV section if you want to try it.
Also put in the Lightning enterprise PCV kit and took it for a test drive with my neighbor.
Whooooo Hooooooo, Much bigger sound and fun factor.
No regrets. Very nice products.

Wouldn't an unsealed box still let heat seep in, thus negating the efforts of an enclosed filter?
I'm on the fence about spending the money on a PSP or JLP "ram air" kit. It may come down to quality controlf or me. I can do the tubing and scoop myself, but I like the looks of the enclosure JLP offers. I just hope the quality will be better....

Someone here had some test instruments and said the JLP was better than the open filter.
Having the inclosuer also keeps dirt and slush that could splash up get on the filter.
If you look at the stock flilter and box and then look at the oiled cone filter and 3 air inlets. Top, fender or bottom hose I don't see how it could not help.
The sound alone was worth it for me and after paying $35 dollars at the dealer for a stock paper filter it will payback in my lifetime.
I avoid dirt roads and my L is not a daily driver.
I am hoping for addition miles per gallon after I keep from checking to see if it sounds cool.
It would be easy to put the stock unit back on for various reasons.
