Tailgate Weatherstripping

Anybody have experience with tailgate weatherstripping kits for the L?

I ordered my BedRug from Tim last night and I want to seal off the tailgate to prevent the dust and water from getting in. No sense re-inventing the wheel if this has been done before. Also, any suggestions on the couple of open body seams near the tailgate? I'm thinking the rope type body caulk would fill these gaps well, before dropping the BedRug in.

ps - I tried a search and found only 1 post

Thanks all,
Herb

Personally I am not convinced that total sealing is in your best interest. The reason is to help the area dry out from yes direct water but also condensation. If you seal it off then I think that the smell will start.

Having had my bedrug for about a year and living in the Pacific Northwest where it rains alot, I can tell you that there is no smell or problems at all. Good luck, in whatever you do. PS as for dust I haven't had any problems. I usually vacuum it out every couple of weeks anyhow.

Any one using a tailgate seal have any comments?

I sould be getting the BedRug tomorrow, so I'd like to seal the back end up at the same time.

I am also running a weatherstripped SnugLid, so condensation should not be a problem - unless a store something wet under the lid.

I dont think many people have done that. I know someone locally who has a 98 flareside with some sort of stripping running vertically where the edge of the rug would meet the tailgate (when closed) ....but he says it came with the truck from Ford..I guess back in 97/98 they put those in stock....he has a bed rug and it looks good together.

Personally I dont think its a big deal...I have the rug, no strip...no problems ..even though it rains here every afternoon during the summer months

someone over at svt performance was talking about this, from what he way saying the regular f150`s have a rubber strip on each side of the tail gate that seal it to the bed and he was thinking of adding them to his truck. I guess it would work on a Lightning, but you might have to drill a couple of holes.

I put a kit on my truck. I have a factory bedliner so instead of sticking it down with the adhesive strip, I just stuck it under the edge of the bedliner and it holds it in place. It seals reasonably well but the area on the sides around the latches is a problem area. Lot of space in there and hard to seal. I had enough length that I cut pieces and slipped them under the tailgate liner on the sides also which helped some. Water is no problem but it still gets dust back under my bed cover.
