pan hardbar problems??
pan hardbar problems??
i had the truck up on the lift today to change my endlinks and noticed the box looking mount was swinging in the breeze... the bottom bolt snapped right off
any idea of how that might happen??
and is there a limit on the drop u can do before u cant use the bar anymore... my sway bar seems like it will be pretty close to hitting the bolt that holds the bar into the diff. mounting plate???
the drop i have is the roush kit + 2"drop shackles??
Thanks

Did you tilt the bed and install a bolt on the upper part of the frame mount? Use Grade 8 fasteners?
You might be able to attach the bar to the front of the axle bracket instead of bumper side of the bracet.
Roush kit plus 2" shackles. That is quite a drop.
Hope this helps.

With the three bolts that the panhard mounts with,
it seems you musta missed something on the install
to have it break like that ... Did you do it accordign to Stan's/ Bob's
instruction sheet?
Hope you finmd the problem.... you can alwaysjust weld it up in there !!!

well i did not tilt the bed or take it off?? I lost the directions?? i installed it according to a pic i saw and i thought it was good... guess not. I used all the hardware that was supplied by stan. I dont know if i got the proper alignmentw/the bar it doesnt sit even w/ the axle it sits a little behind it. the top bolt in the mounting box i put inside the bed channel??? was that right??
does anyone have theirs welded in??
also does the bar mount behind the diff bracket or in front of it??
Thanks

You got it. make sure the channel straddles the bolt. Otherwise it will creak like mad.
Here's a shot of mine just after installation.

Unless you did the frame mount seriously wrong, you cannot mount to the back of the diff plate (front of the truck) while keeping the bar within the slot in the mount (double shear on the bolt). You can mount to the back of the diff plate if you use a longer bolt on the frame mount and mount the bar in single shear by mounting it in back (front of the truck) of the frame bracket.
how tight do u turn the bar and to which side do u favor(drivers/pass side)and can u do this while the truck is in the air??i think not??
tim, my box was mounted the same way as in the photo(Bobs)? so what ur saying is that i can mount the bar on the inside(front of truck) of the frame mount...no chance of the just braking off by not having support on both sides??
Thanks

Do NOT move the bar to the fore (front) end of the axle bracket. Keep it double sheer as illustrated in the pic in my previous post.
Tim was on target on adjusting the bar. Here's an addendum.
With the bar out of the mounting points, loosen the jam nuts until they stop at the heim.
Turn each rod end until you have equal space between the bar and the jam nuts and it is able to fit into position in the frame and axle mounts.
Once it is mounted to the brackets and the fasteners are tight, twist the bar until it stops, take a sharpie and make a small horizontal line on one end of the bar.
Twist the bar in the opposite direction, counting the number of turns. Once it is stopped, divide the number of turns by 2 and back it off that amount. The axle is now centered.
Tighten the jam nuts and TEST DRIVE.
