Intermitent startup problem...please help.
Hey guys.
I have a 2000 lightning that has been giving me a little trouble at startup lately. Some mornings i go out to start my truck and it starts up and does the usual rpm increase to about 1500 rpm's and then it tries to die unless I give it a bit of throttle. When it first happened i for sure thought it was a vacuum leak because thats just how it acted. tried starting it a few time and it kept dying. Couldn't find any leak and so i started it and gave it some gas to keep it running until it warmed up and then the problem seemed to have gone away. This is how it usually happens. One time though it wouldn't stop the dying problem until i got it on the road and got on the throttle pretty good. That seemed to clean it out. So what do you guys think. Has anybody experienced this or something like it. Thanks guys, your help is greatly appreciated.

Takes all of 5 minutes to do, well worth checking.
Mine gave me trouble when it was new, my L use to stall, and or the idle would sore up and down. I cleaned it it never happen again.

First thing you got to do, is take it off

I filled it up with Alcohol, and let it soak. Then I used cue tips and got it spotless inside. I ended up with a sink full of yick and many dirty cue tips when I was done.
Put it back together and your done

I just fixed that exact problem on my wife's Sport Trac yesterday. The Idle Air Control valve was stuck shut, so the engine wasn't getting any air when it was idling. I removed tie IAC valve, cleaned it with carburetor cleaner, lubricated it with a small amount of synthetic oil and reinstalled it. The ST once again starts and idles perfectly.
