Cams?

Ok, here is my cam question for the day. Do any of the cam grinds for a lightning have a lopey idle. I am guessing not, but I would like to know.

Also, are cams worth anything on a mild L like mine (see mods)?

im rusty on cam physics, but isnt the lopey idle caused by valve overlap? if it is, it seems like all that overlap is overkill for a sc engine as having both valves open at the same time would waste fuel and air.

BUT, i am glad there is a lopey idle cam for a 5.4. that kicks ***. what kind do you have? anything else that needed to go with it i.e. ported heads?

hammer
the effects of the overlap change with rpm, what might be too much at idle is just right at shift point.

Holly crap, .581 lift, thats insane, but kewl as hell! I might have to check into cams now. I would love to have a noticable idle, with some reworked exhaust.

We've used those cams in several of our built motors with good luck and they make good power. A nice little lope at idle and they take the power band up a couple of hundred rpm.

cpeacpea, What are your cam grinds? I know you have a built block, and porting, and your L sounds like a pissed off beast ready to attack at full throttle. You've seen my L and I think you know most of my bolt on mods, Im considering a cam spring swap and want a good grind for my set-up with a stock motor. Is your cam too radical for a stock block 4-6# pulleys, intake, long tube headers, etc..?

It wouldn't hurt the motor at all to put in stage II cams with stock internals would it? I have long tubes and full exhaust, and want a little lope to it. Would I still hear the lope if everything else motor-wise was stock? I'm also running a 4# lower/2# upper. Would the chip have to be reburned or anything?

yes they were pricey, but they were the first mod motor cams out on the market at the time

has anyone tried stage 3 cams on a streetable truck?

Also do you think doing cams on a 450hp truck with a stock block would push it over the edge?
