60' Question
60' Question
Is it possible that my truck is just not capable of a quick 60' time? I always struggled with the F1's and never did any better than 2.0s, and those were few and far between. I got the Nitto DR's and tried them out last night. They hooked great but I still had bad 60' times. On the Last yellow light i slammed the gas to the floor and had one little chirp and took off hard. THis got me a 2.0. I don't understand, how could I have launched any better? The tires didn't spin! Doesn't that make it a perfect launch? SO how come my 60" times are still high? Is my truck just slow, maybe lacking some torque?
Track preparation has more to do with sub 2 second 60' times than most people think. How was the track you were at prepped? Even with the DR's, I bet you were still spinning, although it probably wasn't much. I've cut a few 1.9 60's with my 20" Pirelli Scorpion Zero's. This was after the track crew came out and laid down a good coating of the sticky stuff, I forget what that stuff is called (VHF or something).
Plus, you said you slammed the gas to the floor on the last yellow. Next time you go to the track, you should try to come off the line at 1/2 throttle til you know you have good traction and mash it after that. Also, were you doing a good burnout??
I doubt your truck is slow, just some seat time at the track will help you get those 60' times down.

That’s been my Method since day 1
Leave from a dead idle,
AND PUNCH IT
It seems some have tighter, and some have looser Torque
Converter lock up, some even at diff RPM's, go figure ?
That may play a part ?
But "If" you’re not spinning that is a little weird
As said, you still may be spinning (at least a little) ???
Don't sweat it VTSVT, you may just need a diff launch approach.
Some need to preload it a little, some go partial throttle before full, and others feather it, (TG I can STOMP IT)
Hey it's one of the best things to practice on I can think of,
so what the heck, don’t get discouraged, and practice some more

BEST OF LUCK BRO,
I understand the whole track prep thing and usually it is pretty bad. It starts off good but as the night goes on gets worse, but what I'm saying is that besides just a real small chirp I wasn't spinning when track prep was good. In a perfect launch if you could get traction wouldn't the fastest method be to just floor it? I understand rolling into it if your having trouble hooking up, but assuming perfect traction, isn't the fastest way to launch to just floor it?
Yeah, with perfect traction it probably is best just to floor it out of the hole. But, nobody gets perfect traction. Even top feul and funny car drivers sometimes can't hook up. Its all a function of track prep and the way that you "know" what your truck is capable of and what you've learned in past experiences racing your truck.

Yes, there is a possibility that your truck is not running up to it's potential. You could also have tranny issues affecting your 60's. The differential could also be giving you problems that your not noticing.
Give some details on what your truck has for power. Any recent dynoes? What are your track times and MPH at all the marks?

Track times are 13.2 @105 mph
(same run) 8.3@84 mph
This was in COLD weather w/ 2.0 60' on f1's
and...
Last night in mid 70's Temps I ran a few
8.6@81 again w/2.0 60' on the nittos
And again as I stated I was NOT spinning. I'm not saying my truck isn't capable of spinning I'm just saying I was able to get near perfect launches but had slow 60' times.
Any Help?

For the level of power you are at...and the tires your running, your 60's are about right. You may get them down to 1.95...with that combo, but you need more getty up under your hood.
My sixties where 1.8x's with another 50 ponies backing me up and slicks.
I then put in a torque converter and knocked another tenth off that.
Try launching from idle a few times. The stock converter responds better if you "flash" it from idle.
