Autocrossing Tips?

Whats up everyone. Havent been here in a while. Im taking the cobra for its (and my) first autocross. I asked over at SVTP for them to give me some tips on how to prep the cobra and if they had any tips but they were no help.

I know tim, pawn, stan, and others are into twistys and have done some Autxing. Just looking for any tips you guys can give. Either on how to prepe the car or how to drive.

Thanks guys.

I miss my truck

I drove my first autocross a couple of days ago, in my MKIII Supra, and I learned a few things. Some general tips are to pump up to almost max air pressure (look on you tire probably 43-44 psi). Dont bone it, but get a good rythm and get as close to the cone's as possible without contact. Thats easier said than done

40 allaround on race rubber

One word .... SMOOTH !!!

Don't be violent with your car ... Go slow to be fast

take EVERYTHING out of your truck.. CD's, floormats, change, flashlight - EVRYTHING - You dont want something going under the pedal in the middle of the run....

If you do it a lot be prepared to change your brake fluid and your pads and to wear 10k miles off your tires easy....

I agree completely with all of the above, and will add:

Be especially careful for violent tranny kickdowns while exiting a corner. One of the disadvantages of an automatic in auto-x is not being able to control downshifts.

On some courses, you may get the best result by starting out in first, then upshifting to second and leaving it there. Depends on the speed of the course.

When I auto x'ed I manually shifted that way I could control the shifting and the attitude of the vehicle.most of what you will be doing is 1 and 2 only. Also learn to use the power to your advantage[torque]the big thing is you WILL burn the inside tire on the course. So if you can lve with some chatter change the fluid and DO NOT repeat DO NOT put the additive in it.Get so white shoe polish or dial in polish to mark the side of your tires so you know how high they are rolling up and add tire psi from there.Run with either less than 1/4 tank or full the help prevent the fuel from sloshing to bad[remember fuel weight is close to 7 lbs per gal].so if you have 14 gallons in the tank you are sloshing and[changing the wieght dist]by 100lbs.I know I can tell the difference.Stan

Thanks for the tips guys. But I wont have to worry about the tranny shifting on its own, 6spd manuals usually dont do that Im takin the cobra not the truck.

Get so white shoe polish or dial in polish to mark the side of your tires so you know how high they are rolling up and add tire psi from there.
Im confused. What do you mean rolling up.

Iff you dont have enough air in the tire the side wall will roll over and scrub off the polish on a tough corner
