Expensive and harder to find than most oils, but you don't need to top off ATF that often so availibilty isn't that big of an issue. To be honest, I would go with Mobil if you want a synthetic ATF or Chevron ATF is excelent for dino ATF. Unless you are doing a lot of racing or long towing, synthetic isn't really necessary. You're going to have to drain the converter if you plan on switching to synthetic also

If I am not mistaken RP is a dual use fluid and Ford specifically states not to use dual use fluid in the 4R100.

Rather than use a synthetic, I find it easier to just change the fluid more often. You're really only supposed to change it every 40-50k from what I hear. Unless you race all the time, then maybe a little more frequent. The Castrol Mercon is good stuff, not too expensive, so you dont have to hesitate to drain it all out if you need access to your VB or filter.

Take the oportunity to install a deeper trans pan and better filter when you do change it out..... especially if you refill it with the Royal Purple.... as its about 3 times the price of the other brands last time I checked, and you will not want to waste it later on.

I hear if you use a clean bucket you can just pour the ATF back in when you're done though.... but I dont bother personally
