Bad Bearing on Caged Pulley!

Hopefully this thread will not go to ***** like my last one concerning this pulley...

Anyway, some of you probably saw my last thread concerning a bearing noise. I thought it was coming from my alternator or an idler pulley since the noise was still there after removing my blower belt.

The noise is actually coming from the cage bearing on my pulley assembly!

Has anyone heard of this bearing going bad before?

Well, to my dismay the pulley must come off.

To clarify maybe you could tell us if the caged pulley is the stock one or if it is an aftermarket caged pulley design and which one.

If you remove it you may as well just install an aftermarket uncaged pulley for ease of maintenance. Or if you choose to keep the caged design make sure to change the accessory belt while you have it off. It is a pain in the neck to remove a caged pulley just to change a belt.

It is a JDM 4# interchangable pulley.

If you want to keep the pulley I'd price the bearing from a local shop and have it done local. Maybe JDM will give you a package deal on a bearing and spindle so check with them also. Probably cheaper and easier in the long run to get a used 4lb uncaged pulley from the classifieds.

01 I got your email this morning and replyed back that you can send it in to be fixed for free. The spindle may need to be replaced when removed If you need it Ill send it with the pulley when shipping back. The spindle is $65.

That sounds like a good deal. At least they are going to cover the bearing.
