Spitting Plug Question

I have read a lot about the issue regarding the problem of the pre-2003 L's spitting plugs. Is this a serious problem with stock vehicles? I have a completely stock '02 Lightning with less than 24k miles on the clock. I would like to make a few mods in the next year or so, but I am concerned that the plug threads are going to be an issue. These mods would probably be limited to a flash tuner and maybe a few more pounds of boost. Looking for around 400 HP at the wheels. Nothing too crazy. Does this plug spitting occur only on those vehicles that have a moderate to heavy list of mods? What should I avoid to prevent this problem?
Also, should this potential problem affect my plug changing plans? I was going to switch out the stocker plugs for a set of Denso's, but after I have read these issues, I am timid to touch the plugs at all scared I might upset what working great right now.

From: Colorado,
It seems to be a random issue.

Good idea to get in there and check them from time to time.

Might as well do you mods and change plugs to the right heat range.

Some folks go without problems.

You got to keep in mind that there aren't that many folks that participate on these boards and most that do are looking for help or into mods.

At 24k I would check them at least.

There are some great posts with pictures in the archives. You need a few specialty tools and plan on 2 or 3 hours your first time
Enjoy!

I'm with you Red Death. I have a stock red 02L with 11K miles and I was considering the same mods. I have heard about the plug spitting problems to and I am thinking about getting the extended warranty. I think if we don't go to wild with the mods and check the plugs regularly, we'll be ok. I plan on a flash tuner, K&N drop in, cat back, and maybe a 2lb pulley. Thanks for the info EZGZ.
