From: Colorado,
Thats kind of an odd thing to say about FRAM

Cheap price and minimum standards are not what I want for my L but don't they have different grades that cost a little more?

Does motocraft make there own filters, or sub contract it to the lowest bidder?

Not trying to stir up trouble but I would be interested to know.

I think its because fram filters let the oil drain back and after sitting for a while there is no oil left in the lines. on initial startup it is dry for longer and the dreaded piston slap on these trucks is worse. (or something or that nature you get the idea) I think i thought i read this somewhere on the forum.

Yes, thats how Sal explained it to me, AMOF when I did my first
oil change way back when, I bought Fram and immediatly had that problem of tapping on cold start ups, Sal explained why, I went and bought a Mobil 1 filter, looked inside and immediatly saw the differance. A GOOD FILTER has a check valve thingy with a spring on it and everything. Fram has NOTHING, an empty shell filled with card board
OR SOMETHING ?
Now I only use Mobil 1

Sickboy's original question was about FUEL filters. I know the Fram oil filters are junk, but does anyone have any insight as to the quality of their fuel filters?

Motorcraft's oil filters are rebranded Purolators, so I assume their fuel filters are someone else's also.

Just a question, but how does the oil drain out of the filter when the filter is mounted upside down?

I'm trying to envision this right now. The filter is mouted upside down, but if the volume of oil above it isn't stopped with a anti drainback vavle then the oil will drain . . . well i think either to the pump or the pan, you probably know better than i do.

So its not really draining out of the filter, its draining through the filter (well if your have a crappy filter).
