FUBAR'ed brakes -- ideas needed
hey i kinda like those nut spliiter things though, looks pretty handy, anyone have any experience with em and how effective they are? I've borrowed a couple buddies stripped nut removers and theyve worked but i've never really like em enough to think i would buy em but those look really well made.

Tim a better/bigger pic would help us see how much room
you got to work in ??
These are going to be too blury

Thanks, guys, for the amazing number of helpful responses!
Problem solved -- the extractor/impact wrench combo did it.
I just took the assembly back to the guy who put the nuts on. I may have falsely called him a "monkey," because he swears that he did it with a torque wrench to exactly 80 lbs. I believe him.
Anyway, we tried the extractor on an impact wrench, then he moved on to other methods. Finally, he gives up and tells me to go to a machine shop. "One more try with the extractor, please," I ask. Done!
Now if I can get Brembo to return my call to tell me where to get some new nuts. They always pass me off on a dealer, and each time the dealer has no idea what I'm talking about. God forbid they would actually ship a parts list with $4K brakes. All you get is a multilingual comic book of an instruction manual, written for an audience way too dumb to be installing brakes.
Thanks again!

Sell your brakes and buy TCE's
Todd sends instructions that assume you know righty tighty lefty loosey, along with proper brake/suspension maintenanace and assembly techniques.
He also tells you if you shouldnt be messing with it.
Sorry for the cheap shots Tim, I've been hearing too much brembo bitching and "I should've bought the Wilwoods" lately.

My Brembos are running just fine. :) Tim's are having trouble because a mechanic futzed it up...

Ah, that's just cause Tim's a girly man.

There's not too many parts to a brembo kit:
1 Right caliper (with brake pads installed)
1 Right caliper bracket, with nuts and washers
1 Right rotor (disc & bell assembled)
1 Right Goodridge stainless steel braided brake line
1 Left caliper (with brake pads installed)
1 Left caliper bracket, with nuts and washers
1 Left rotor (disc & bell assembled)
1 Left stainless steel braided brake line
2 Brake caliper inlet fitting or banjo bolt
2 Brake caliper inlet copper sealing washer
2 Brake bleeder hose
2 Loctite Capsule
2 4-inch Brembo die-cut sticker
1 Caliper bracket diagram
1 Installation Instructions
"Q : The caliper nuts supplied in my kit aren't round and won't easily thread onto the studs.
A : The caliper nuts that are supplied with the kits are aerospace grade self-locking nuts. They have an oval crossection that prevents them from being threaded onto the studs by hand. They will need to be installed with a wrench, and torqued to the specification called out in the installation manual."

The problem is not that there are too many parts to count, the problem is that not a single part number is listed. Not one. Not pads, rotors, hardware -- nothing. But the worthless information is provided in 54 languages so people in every civilized nation in the world can experience the joy of not knowing what they need or where to get it from.
"For assistance, please contact Brembo. We have clueless representatives standing by to not answer your questions in 54 different languages."

If I had bought them new, probably would do the same from pricepoint. But I paid less then $2500 for my current set.

And the only "bitchin'" that I've done concerns the cost and difficulty in obtaining the parts. My Brembos have always done exactly what they are supposed to do -- stop the truck whenever I want.
MISTERGadget's just jealous because the Brembos look so much pimpier than Wilwoods.
