Rusted Diff Cover

I am in the process of chaning my gear oil and my diff cover is severly rusted. The majority of the black paint is flaking off and there is some major scaling on the surface of the cover were there is no longer any paint. Should I replace the cover or could I remove the rust and repaint it black. If I repaint it do I need high temp paint.

Mine was doing the same thing.. I bought a extra cover & had it powdercoated.

I also painted the heads of the bolts.

I'm thinking my diff cover might be needing replacing soon also. Theres a small piece of rust (flakey layer that the pics will show towards the bottom. I don't think it'll leak or anything but it'd prolly be best ot get a new one sometime right?

What kind of paint did you use on the bolts (or how did you paint them?)?

I like the rubber O-ring gasket also. Just remove the bolts and pull it off. No need for removing old gaskets with a gasket remover tool.

I can put my hand on the differential cover after it has been driven a couple hundred miles. My old differential cover got hot enough to burn off the paint and rust!

Easter was just kidding -- I think that he was the first around here to got one.

The M-H is one of my favorite mods. I have probably spent 20 hours just cutting and fitting the Ruslow PHB and Hotchkis anti-sway to make them work with it.

Other benefits:
Magnetic drain plug
Magnetic dipstick!
Pre-drilled temp sender boss
Hardcore good looks
Gets out those impossible stains
Removes fine lines and wrinkles
Perfect for maintaining your cat's urinary health

Yes to me, but I have a problem and I am not afraid to admit it. I can’t stand anything rusting on my truck, so I have powder coated the spindles, power steering pump, steering box, motor mounts, and when I am done I will have eliminated all of the rust.

Yes it’s a sickness…

I stuck the bolts into a scrap piece of cardboard so just the heads were showing & sprayed them with some high-temp flat black spray paint.
